Refuse - street collections

My apologies if this has been mentioned before but I couldn't find anything when I entered 'refuse' in search.Apart from being personally affected by the changing collections  -they do not seem to recognise that some council tenants might like to continue with recycling using the old green boxes and white bags because they won't or can't supply new wheelie bins- apart from this, have you noticed the build up of rubbish in the general street bins and recycling areas?I phoned the council about the recycling one next to Morrison's in Acton three weeks ago which was in a terrible state and,after keeping me on the phone for nearly 20 minutes, they finally said they would do something about it and did. However, it's built up again and people are now again throwing their unwanteds onto the ground near the bins or even better into the surrounding hedges! It's probably a borough wide phenomenon as I noticed a similar situation with a large bin in Mattock Lane not far from the Questors Theatre - bin chocker, rubbish thrown around it.I will phone the council again today.

That's good news.  Unfortunately I've heard that some of the street recycling banks appear to have been removed.  This isn't good news for all those who need the extra space and can't survive two weeks (or more as it is when you are away/miss a collection or will miss one).  Your flat may be there but that doesn't mean that you are to deal with the containers and it can be too much to ask a neighbour to deal with for you (but wonderful if one will).

Thanks Phillipa. I think my flat situation is sorted now (they are picking up my recycling in the old containers) but I will keep an eye on the street recycling and general bins and report to the council and the councillors if necessary.

Hello Anthony.  Have you contacted your local Councillors?https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/200033/councillors_and_democracy(You can also find them by going to the homepage of the Council website where there is an A-Z (top RHS) - or very very bottom of the homepage - "My Borough")  www.ealing.gov.ukIt would be interesting to know what sort of property you are living in in order to understand why you may not have been given wheelie bins.  There are some properties including some with steps up/down to entrances which have been assessed as unsuitable for wheeled bins (and for which they would be dangerous).  Many of these are using the same systems as they did before - green box and an ordinary dustbin (landlord or tenant providing/maintaining this) to safeguard the black sack until collection day. Dustbins can be secured back to a wall with bungee elastic or chain - so that the black sack can be lifted out (rather than the bin being lifted up as used to happen many years ago).  Black sacks should not be heavy.  We can recycle most things in LBE. However the amount of space when these houses have been divided into flats with no outside space is very limited.  The street recycling banks make a lot of difference to these properties.
