The Oaks Redevelopment

Has anyone heard what shops will be opening in The Oaks when work is completed?All we heard so far was the false rumour that Waitrose were keen to come to Acton - I checked and was told they had no intention of occupying a supermarket in The Oaks!That sounds more like the carrot being dangled before the donkey!

The developer of the site, Reef Estates, appointed by the mysterious Acton Regeneration Company, still lists Waitrose as a partner in the development, presumably as the anchor tenant of the 30k sq/ft food retail space.Wonder who's telling the truth.http://reefestates.co.uk/portfolio/acton/

M&s are opening lots more simply foods so I'm crossing fingers that they open in the Oaks!

Anyhow I think every shopping area needs one, for a meet up point and refreshments otherwise shoppers won't stay, which is what happen with the last one.

Because Churchfield Road is so devoid of choice?I woud have thought that the one service not required in the Oaks.

Well I actually wrote to Waitrose because I was rather hoping that they would move into The Oaks, after all the hype from the developers and the council.Sadly they assured me that this was not the case, so I would rather believe Waitrose, I am sure they have their reasons.

Hopefully, Anna, this is more accurate than the hedge fund manager on a bike who informed one Acton resident last April that the Waitrose deal was all set!Or, for that matter, the planning committee meeting that okayed The Oaks rebuilding, where the pro-block councillors all swore blind that Waitrose was on its way.

One of Waitrose first shops was in Acton in 1908 shame they will not be at The Oaks and agree Wilco would do well.

I have been saying for years that Wilko would go down well here.M&S seems an odd choice.  More expensive than Waitrose (in fact if you buy Waitrose Essential range as we do, it can work out cheaper than most supermarkets and the quality is better).Aldi I can understand.  Hope it is a reasonable size one.

Aldi - great - but M&S as well - seems unlikely. Wilko would be a useful addition though

M&S Simply Foods will be handy especially if you can order on line and pick up in the store like  I n Chiswick.

Hi Anna,  Well I would be quite happy with the stores you mention.Let's hope the new development is completed soon.I think there should be some pictures on the front of this development to let residents have some idea of how it will look. Better to look at pictures rather than graffiti!I agree it is sad to visit Acton High Street right now, it is hardly an attractive or inviting place to shop.

I've heard that Aldi, Wilko and Simply Food (M&S) will be opening in the new Oaks.  That's from someone who works in retail property leasing so is likely to be fairly accurate.

Jean funny  this I was in Acton high St this morning  and not even a poster to say what it might look like  not like Acton gardens  many pic plus a website and the high street looks miserable  so sad
