Quick question. Wondering if anyone can answer. If a council tenant no longer lives in a property, leaving one adult continuing to live there.Does the tenancy cease with the parent or the child?

yes on The Vale near the railway bridge. The building is owned by Notting Hill but we manage it as a housing co-operative.

Thanks for information.Ok. It depends upon the type of tenancy. Will take a look at the links, to see what the rules are on this.

Not necessarily - it depends on the tenancy. I have a secure tenancy which includes inheritance rights. If one of my daughters was living with me when I die, they would inherit the tenancy.
https://www.gov.uk/council-housing/apply-for-a-council-homehttp://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/social_housing/about_council_housing/secure_council_tenanciesDifferent Councils have different rules and there are different types of tenancies. The Shelter website is good.

The tenancy ceases with the parent.
Bear in mind this used to be the rules, unless they have changed recently.
Trying to understand your question, if the Council Tenant has left permanently the tenancy does not transfer to someone else in the property unless joint tenancy. The tenancy does not automatically pass to another adult or a child that is left in the property.
