Body worn videos for police.

What a good idea, wonder if this will mean more officers out patrolling the streets,there have been some awful incidents where officers have been attacked while carrying out duties so hope this will help discourage that type of behaviour.

Agree about needing more understanding of honour crime as you say it's been the focus for a long time but think again that the police never wanted to be involved in any kind of domestic violence going back to 1970s whenmy sister had problems with her husband who was violent when drinking alcohol, at that time you had to be separated for 3 years before you could file for divorce because so often the couples would forgive and forget and end up together again which had wasted a lot of police time it became difficult for police to deal with and they keep a distance from it if they can so yes the BWVs probably will be no help in those situations.  Think my sister had photos taken of injuries by Doctor and Doctors report that was the only way she had proof of the violence...

Thank-you for your concern. Yes they were the "in-laws" or Out-laws I should say who are prepared to close ranks. There were witnesses as well except for some reason they are not even present in officers write-ups. But I do genuinely believe that we all need to be cautious about the MET's claim of BWVs makes it better for all as stated I'm able to prove it's not always the case and officers are able to delete the footage without a trace as even my children noticed from their recording done. One would have thought Honour crimes would have been better understood in this day and age given the fact it seems to have been a focus for the police for over 20 years, having said that even the Met's first Asian WPC in 1970s was killed in a honour crime by her husband - seems like lessons have just not been learnt...

Suppose each case is different I.e the age of the person being abused in any way, there is helpline for younger victims, something seems amiss here and confusing about who to go to for help.

Yes, because i refused to shut my mouth, turning for help at the time. "brought dishonour/shame to the her & her family". Despite the different forms of abuses that took place they were not accepted by the people who were supposed to be protecting one. Recordings were dismissed even without looking at them, as previously mentioned the record kept in the diary laughed and leaked. There are others (on Ealing) who know what happened which could bring accountability but prefer not to do anything as its a sad (repeat) episode with Ealing Police. I'm in contact with diverse people who have suffered DV and attacked on this borough but I am not able to say to them to contact the police given my experience.

Many Thanks for replying.In my Domestic Violence cases, I had even been bruised, shockingly my ex was not questioned or arrested my Ealing Police Officers because of "her Islamic dress". This is factual. There's a lot of talk about Honour abuse but not Honour crime but senior police. In my case, Specialist DV police officers even leaked confidential information from a diary that I eventually managed to have the courage to hand in. As I got reminded repeatedly by the ex "they had a laugh about what you handed in".  Male DV victims are discriminated against as you may see just from a few factual experiences mentioned above.But in general BWVs, is still open to abuse. Even if one was to apply for a copy of the BWVs, even if you were a victim they are not entitled to provide it to you or provide you with an explanation if the footage was docked by the recording officer and what date it happen to get deleted. I guess if an officer was assaulted it may be useful, but in all honesty one would have hoped the BWVs would have brought more accountability and transparency but tragically there seems to be more questions than answers....

Hi Abdul, that's interesting and also I'm wondering is it because they don't like to be involved with solving domestic disputes, no idea why and sorry you were a victim of domestic violence.  Was thinking it was good for patrolling the streets but how reliable would it be, don't sound promising then.

There's 2 sides of this. Having been a male victim of Domestic Violence repeatedly and Islamophobic physical attack on more than one occasion I have had to ask police officers to turn their BWV on, to which they did and even explained to me what will be happening i.e. with the beeps. Shockingly, the footage keeps on disappearing or as it was by stated Inspectors and Crime Management dept, officers were not equipment that day with BWVs. Except the problem here is, that another recording captured them clearly showing that they were...Even after raising a complaint through the IPCC and once it goes through the whole process to get to an investigating officer to contact you, it exceeds 31 days, which is the police's time limit for the  footage to be kept and additionally van footage is only 22 days.There is supposed to be an audit process for the BWVs ie. who docks it, views it etc but its not necessary the case...
