good news oaks shopping centre

there is a licensing application from lidl on the wall of the development - not as good as aldi but a welcome addition to acton

Yes Naweed. That will be the one next to the spaceport.Personally, I am delighted if Lidl actually are moving into the Oaks and it returns to being the kind of shopping centre it used to be. I used to get so much stuff from the 99p Shop, Poundstretcher, Sports Direct etc. Now have to pay far higher prices for the same things. At least Savers as stuck around.

Officers attending the Town Team meeting on Thursday evening reported the Council are near to completing a deal with 2 other retailers. They arent allowed to tell us but both are names frequently mentioned in connection with this site. Who could it be?

Within 500 yards of the police station you can buy alcohol 24 hrs a day ! I presume it's legal as it is completely open ! Good news about Lidl though . Hope they can get more stores on board !

Residents of all shades of political opinion objected strenuously to the entrance being off Churchfield Road. The narrow corner of Market Place and Churchfield Road causes problems for pedestrians today. How it will cope with the increased traffic remains to be seen. Vehicles coming the other way will expect to be held at the railway crossing, where traffic builds up regularly. Hmmmmmm.

I'm not the expert but I think the Ealing core hours are sometime after 0900 to around 2300 for off-sales.Maureen will know.She has got most of the chains: McDs, Sainsburys and the like to comply. No reason why Lidl would be different.

I know I sound like the voice of doom.But I have never worried about not having a shopping centre - Waitrose or otherwise in the new development.This is for the simple reason of access.Lidl is likely to attract a lot of shoppers, but without direct access from the High Street that could lead to  hundreds (thousands?) of cars suddenly trying to wend their way down the Churchfield Road.Am I alone in thinking it might not be such a great idea?

Just because someone wishes to buy alcohol at 7am it does'nt mean they are going to drink it then,they may be saving it for their lunch break.Besides, not everyone wants to live a dull and predictable 9-5 existence.
