New speed limit on Horn Lane

Hello,New speed 20mph restriction on Horn Lane!!!I have only just noticed it.Does anyone know when the signs went up?Thank

A lower vehicle speed limit usually requires a lower gear and possibly multiple gear changes, which usually result in more fuel used and more pollution.

The 20mph limit has been there for some time but I am not so sure about conflicting 30 signs. I am very pleased with this lower limit and would like to see it extended along the full length. This is a busy, dangerous and polluted road and a lower limit would help to create a safer, calmer and less polluted route. To me, and I know to many others, Horn Lane is one of the most unpleasant environments in Acton. More crossings have improved the situation and the Noel Road and Acton Main Line improvements will help more. Further investments in paving, parking and street furniture might even make this a desirable place for new businesses in the future...

They often do that there, it is usually to do with untaxed cars. Can't see the police spending their time enforcing a 20 mph limit

I understood that is where horse-drawn coaches heading for a pub in Actpn sounded their horns so that the change of horses would be ready for them when they arrived.

Yesterday in Horn lane many vehicles were being pulled over into Creswick road by hordes of Police strategically placed along the main road. Maybe due to the speed limit?

In the last week I have had two drivers right behind me on my bumper sounding their horns as I chugged down Horn lane at 20 mph. There is a historical rumour that Horn lane was named because of the stream that runs under it and the number of horns from skinned animals that were left there by generations of ancient Actonians before us!  Apparently the horns were discovered when laying out the road. Maybe, in our day there will be a new meaning to the name "Horn Lane"!!! However, in spite of the above, personally I am in favour of slower speeds as apparently in the case of a collision,lives are saved by driving more slowly.

Agree, keep within the limit and all those drivers who drive close behind trying to make you drive faster STOP IT.

The camera *had* a sign saying that it was still set to 30mph despite the 20mph general limit; now that 30mph sign's been removed, we must assume the speed camera has been recalibrated to 20mph. PLEASE DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT BY OUR INCREASINGLY ILLOGICAL APPROACH TO DRIVING COGNITION IN LONDON! (i.e. opportunities to 'tax' drivers by increasing their cognitive load and pushing them into stress-induced failures, masquerading as 'breaking the law'). I do agree that drivers need, generally, to be much better - more aware, more responsive, more dynamic. Speed traps, constantly changing speed limits and average speed tracking cameras, however, are not the way to achieve that.If we're not careful, this little old camera on Horn Lane could top the record number of fines recently exposed on the A406 just north of Chiswick Roundabout!

I find Horn Lane particularly confusing as many of the side roads have 20mph Zone signs at their entry, which give the impression that Horn Lane is 30mph.  But then you see 20mph repeater signs on Horn Lane.  Stephanie is right about the former 30mph sign before the camera, but it looks as if that was retained by mistake after the limit was changed to 20.  Here's a Google Street View photo, dated October 2016, on which I've marked (from right to left) a 20mph repeater, the 30mph/camera warning sign and on the far left the yellow camera:and here is a closer view of the camera and its 30mph warning sign, also from October 2016:If anyone was caught by the camera at a speed below 30 they would have a good case for an appeal.

Speeds used to be the same the length of the road, you said there about having to keep looking at the speed and I think having to look out for speed limits continually along one road and watching the speedo is one of the worst distractions when driving,  quite often my o/half says you know you can do 40 here and often it changes to 30 not much further on so its safer to stay at 30mph.

I absolutely hate this. What's more it seems completely unfair to people who work in the evening. If 20mph limits were put in place across London, my old nightly drive home would probably take 20 minutes longer each day.I have no problem with there being a 20mph limit on side roads, but on Horn Lane and Uxbridge Road, it's crazy, you naturally drive quicker and end up driving along with one foot hovering over the brake staring at the speedometer.If they want to make Horn Lane safer for pedestrians - stop cyclists riding on the pavement.

I know that is has been 20mph on part of the Horn lane and around for some time but there used to be a 30 sign by the speed camera until last week. I also drive at less than 30 but when it is clear it is quite easy to get to 22-24 on that stretch.

In my 17 years living in Acton i don't think I 've ever driven faster than 20 mph on horn lane. So no change there!

Googled this, and there is no definite answer only that the police don't seem to enforce the 20mph if you keep below 30mph.  If the 20mph sign has red circle it can be enforced but they don't seem to do it for some reason.

I heard that the 20mph was a recommended speed and that you won't get a fine if you keep below 30mph, was that correct information does anyone know please.

Perhaps there are some new signs - but have been 20mph signs on Horn Lane for months.

It is a lot more recent that this. There was a 30mph limit. There is a speed camera on the stretch between Creswick Road and Julian avenue and it was never 20mph. I think it was change at some point this week.
