Acton Storm Tanks & the Tideway Tunnel

It's a busy year ahead for the sewage area known as Acton Storm TanksImprovements will be taking place, so here's a bit more for the Acton Forum readers some of whom in the Factory Quarter area have been very helpful over the last 5 years in bringing this dispute to a head.Thames Water and Acton Storm TanksAll the work by SPTRA, the local W4 residents Assoc., and the Factory Quarter residents, to get Thames Water to improve the experience of living near the Storm Tanks may be about to show some improvements – at last!TW will soon be starting the schedule of improvements at Acton Pumping Station (aka the Storm Tanks)The work TW is doingTW have altered the way in which the storm tanks fill up, so the two middle tanks now fill first during periods of heavy and prolonged rainfall. Previously all the tanks filled together thus creating 4/6 odorous areas, now this will be just 2 (then 4 etc). Most rainy situations only requires two tanks to be used so this is an improvement. The big newsTW will then be installing covers on the two middle storm tanks to reduce odour with new odour control units to treat the gasses and air within the tanks. When? The site preparation is from Wednesday 22 March and TW expect to start work from Tuesday 28 March. The work will take approximately five months to complete.Drop-in sessionsTW will be holding two public drop-in sessions for anyone who would like to find out more about the work and ask questions to the project team. Details of the drop-ins are below - Both events are at the Scout Hut – Rugby Rd W41ATThursday 16th – 2.30pm to 7.00pmMonday 27th February 5.00pm to 8.00pmThames Tideway TunnelThis is a different project all together with work starting on the same piece of land (and then all over London/see the website). The above “Drop-ins” are NOT about the Tunnel in particular. The tunnel building starts in the Autumn and although, strictly the project is still under some legal scrutiny, if all goes according to plan, building will start on the whole project and at the Acton Storm Tanks end in the Autumn of 2017.  The Acton site’s contribution to the project is expected to take around 3.5 years.
