NHS report on the front page

Was this report written based on a Lib Dem press release I wonder? I quote:"Councillor Jon Ball, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Ealing Central and Acton, described the plans as 'plain bonkers' saying, “NHS Chiefs deny they will close Ealing Hospital but a hospital without an A&E, that performs no surgery and with no overnight beds, is not a hospital. Ealing deserves a real hospital not a glorified polyclinic.”Jon Ball was not one of the main speakers, nor do I remember him being called to speak from the floor. Two photos are included with the report, both with large pictures of Gary Malcolm, Lib Dem councillor who was called to speak from the floor. All rather partisan I think, especially as it was a Council organised meeting, and the ruling group is Labour. Just to be clear - I am not a member of the Labour party but the report seemed a little skewed to me, as someone who attended the meeting..

No - oh blimey I have a head cold and am obviously not expressing myself very well! I am saying that in my view the report seemed a bit biased because the 2 photos show Gary Malcolm - my councillor who is a good guy - but also quotes Jon Ball who did not speak. Any way the important thing is the campaign which I urge everyone to join.

So you are saying that the report is biased because the presence of Liberal Democrats at a Labour meeting should not have been mentioned?

I disagree. The point I was making was that the report appeared biased. The campaign - which I have been part of for a very long time - is composed of people from all different parties and none. The meeting was organised by the council which happens to be Labour. But of course I agree that everyone sensible wants to defend the NHS regardless of which party they belong to.

For once, I have to agree with the latter point - this is not about party politics, and someone made the point last night; the gradual destruction of the NHS has even seen the British press united for once - left, liberal and even the far right.Let's keep it that way even though we might have different views; we can only win if we all stand together, regardless of our affiliation.

I totally agree,the whole meeting smacked of Labour Party propaganda. One speaker from the floor made the point of having to intergrate with groups of a different persuasion.You can't achieve anything by preaching to the converted. It made the impression that only Labour cares about the NHS which could'nt be further from the truth.

The point is that it is disheartening to see a campaign to protect local NHS services descend so quickly into petty party jealousy.
