We don't have to rely on the Council to do everything for us.  They have plenty of other things to deal with apart from the recycling and waste collection which people shout loudest about but about which many could and should be taking a much more responsible attitude towards themselves. We should be making sure that we know what we should be doing with our recycling and residual waste - and if we don't then knowing where we can find out from. And, yes, some things can be a challenge. The fact that we now buy and keep too much stuff is our problem - especially since we often buy on credit or are encouraged by special offers - and then waste a lot.We often buy more without working out where it will go or what we will do with what we are replacing.Life has changed. Children used to be very happy to have hand-me-downs whether clothes or furniture or cutlery and china. Now everyone seems to want to be an interior designer and to change everything when they are bored with it rather than when it stops working/wears out/breaks.Why should the Council and Council Tax payers have to pay for all these whims and fancies?  There are more important things - like all the elderly who need care but get the minimum and for who so much more could be done to make their lives easier. An awful lot of vacuum cleaners are taken to be disposed of because the bag needs emptying or there is a blockage that just needs attention.  Nowadays the original instructions, spare parts, how to fit those spare parts and other trouble-shooting help and videos can be found online.  Not everybody is online but there is nothing to stop anybody helping a family member or neighbour to find those elusive vacuum cleaner bags now that there are so many to choose from!Learning where local repairers are and and sharing your knowledge of them on websites like this one is very valuable! There is also lots of good stuff on here.  I'll bet you learn something that you didn't know before.http://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/news/
