Knitting for local projects?

I"m about to start a 'Stitch and Enrich' group (sounded more positive than Stitch and Bitch, though the only 'enriching' we will do is psychological rather than monetary!)Does anyone know of any local projects we could knit something for?

As part of Dementia Awareness Week 14 - 20 May, Patricia will be at the Ealing Broadway Centre on Thursday 18 May 1pm to 3pm publicising the use of the Twiddle Mitts, appealing for knitters and donations of materials.

Absolutely. I thought Gill meant would people with ADHD use Twiddle Mitts rather than make them.

There are people who find it easier to learn when they are moving around and knitting is one of the things that they can do - knitting through lectures at university.

I am not sure whether people with ADHD would sit still long enough to use  a Twiddle Mitt. Dementia Concern also need square small blankets for people who are bedridden also with different textures or ribbons etc. If you contact Patricia she will be happy to meet your group. The Twiddle Mitts are a knitted oblong using different textured yarns or stitches so ideal for beginners. They are very comforting. We have struggled to give away some that we have made. They feel lovely.

Malcolm's auntie Essie knits hats and scarves (but not gloves any more) for asylum seeker children - we give them out in December at the drop in where I volunteer monthly.Anything from baby to about age 14 is really useful.Odd how - though loads of children's clothes get donated - they never include hats and scarves as they get lost not outgrown.so contributions welcomed - we need over 100 sets a year and auntie Essie aged 95 - can't keep up. thanks

Thanks Alison - I had come across these and they would be ideal, particularly as we may have some beginners.I have often wondered whether people with ADHD might find these useful too.

Ealing Dementia Concern are asking for Twiddle Mitts. People suffering from dementia often have restless hands and these can have a calming effect.
