Old Berrico Shop next to Sainsbury's

After all these year, there seems to be activity at the old Berrico shop. Anyone know what it's going to be?

I make Churchfield my first choice more and more, just wish there was a larger range of "practical" shops, chemist, stationers, greengrocer. I am lucky to be able bodied so I can walk there. I do appreciate some people need to drive (I was a carer for a lady with restricted mobility so know that a car is the only choice for some)So not really inconvenienced by works. Each round trip costs me about 3000 steps on my pedometer. I think the works will be worth it.

Yes and wonder how many people have now chosen to shop online instead which will mean a lot of the customers might not return when the improvements are finished.

Until the beastly road "improvement" works are done, it's almost impossible to visit loads of the shops anyhow.You would think that the imminent local elections would focus the council's mind on getting this done as soon as possible....but it seems not.

Many years ago we never ventured further than Churchfield Road shops and don't remember it being much of a High Street then, it would be nice to have a variety of shops but unless people visit them they won't last long sadly.

I suggested to Sainsburys that they may wish to extend into next door - apparently, their powers that be aren't interested.  I would prefer that we don't have more of what we already have here - something new that we don't have - maybe a WH Smith, or a Superdrug, or Poundland, or a shoe shop, anything, but what we have repeats of.  As there is nothing of a high street on the high street.

Application is for 4 flats in the pre-existing space - plus 2 mews houses behind and a flat up in the newly extended roof.See one of my earlier postings for a link to the planning application.

There was a planning proposal submitted back in 2013/2014 for that but I haven't seen anything about what will be coming into the ground floor this time.I'll reply to the original post with some details and links for current work.

There is no application for change of use. So ground floor commercial unless we hear otherwise.

Any updates on what Berrico will be? The floors of the building have been removed and I'm guessing flats but any updates on the retail space?

The scaffolding reaches well above the top of the building, are they adding floors

They have parking bay suspension until 10th September 2017 - implying a lot of work.

I asked the guys working on the building. They said it is being renovated but now one has signed a lease yet.
