Fat ginger tom cat!

Hello.  We've had to resort to putting a "please do no feed" collar on our ginger tom cat as someone is feeding him, we think, as well as ourselves.  He's now absolutely huge!  If the kind person who's feeding a ginger cat in the Friars Way/St Dunstan's Avenue area is reading this, can you please stop!  He's very over-weight now, obese, in fact and his health is suffering.  To keep feeding him like this is cruel.  I'm very concerned about him.  If anyone knows someone who's feeding a ginger cat and they may not be reading this, can you please let them know?I know the feeding is done out of kindness but, actually, this is causing our lovely cat health issues.  Thank you.

That is a really good question!  Just playing with my puppy....how do I know he's not thinking "time to play with her, to burn that energy off!"  :-)

I've always found the relationship between humansand their pets full of comic potential, ever sincehumans first kept animals as pets. The humansoften trying to work out what the pet was really thinking - Montesquieu and his cat - whilethe cats have just taken advantage of the situation; while most dogs are just happy chasing their ball. If watching the antics of dogs playing in the park can't raise a smile then a person must be in a pretty poor way IMO.michael adams...

Thank you, Michael, for the massive laugh I've had whilst reading your post!  Yes, we are worried if we cut back on food, he'll be orf!Catnip....not thought of this.  I will give it some research.The cat-muzzle is a crazy and funny idea!  I think he may well leave home with that one.I'm loving the GPS tracker idea and our school caretaker mentioned it tonight too.  Watch this space.  Thanks.

There are also lots of baby birds they feast on, I am spending a fortune keeping other peoples cats out of my garden, spikes on fences, citronella granules...in particular one long haired black cat. prowling around the garden after my fledgelings. They are easy pickings.

I assume that the reason you're reluctant to stopfeeding him yourself is for fear he'll move intohis new home and won't return. Have you tried him with catnip ? If you find he likes catnip then if you feed him just small amounts of a specialtreat and allow him to play with his catnipmaybe that will give him sufficient reason to want to stay with you.Thinking a bit laterally - there are actually cat-muzzles available which it seems are exclusively designed to cover the eyes of nervous cats in stressful situations. A bit of adaptation with a scissors to cut eyes holes and a bigger nose hole might render it difficult for your cat to feed elsewhere. From the look of these muzzles it appears they'd come off fairly easilyif snagged on a branch and so are unlikely to injure the cat.A cheaper alternative to a camera might be a GPS tracker fitted to his collar. I'm not really upon this stuff but it might be possible to track him on your smartphone.michael adams...

Poor little cat.  I think there are quite a few strays around, here and there, due to finances, unwanted kittens, etc.  I love the idea of a micro camera!  Even if he wasn't overfed!  It's probably quite expensive and not ideal if someone takes it off or it gets lost/snagged off.  Will have a think!  Thanks Janice.

Micro camera is a good idea at least you will know for sure what he is up to.  I had a stray coming in the cat flap to pinch my cats food so would leave some out for him, he was very thin and without a collar but think the foxes got him eventually, he would never have been tamed and was terrified of people.

Thanks for posting, Janice.  I hadn't thought of that, mainly because we don't have a cat flap ourselves.  Not sure he'd use one, he's so cautious of small spaces, but if he is using one....he won't be able to do so much longer, as he's way too big and will get stuck!We can't keep him indoors for long - we have a puppy and tried to keep him in when the puppy arrived, so our cat wouldn't leave home permanently.  It worked for 2 days then he was literally climbing the walls to get out of an open window.  Maybe he's eating out of a rubbish bin somewhere.  I've thought about putting a micro camera on his collar!  I thought it was worth a shot posting here, just incase.  Thanks.

They get in through cat flaps and eat food left for other cats, can you keep him indoors.
