The meeting was well attended..Joy Morrissey who has been supporting and helping the residents in sheltered housing on the the estate and Yvonne Johnson also attended. The folk living in sheltered accommodation were informed by Yvonne Johnson that there would be no sheltered housing in South Acton and this had been decided by the council. What there would be is Over 55 housing. The criteria of course being you need to be over 55 to live in the accommodation. The elderly residents felt betrayed, as they had had discussions with both the council and developers and believed that a sheltered block was going to be built close to the high street. Concerns were raised that the umbrella of support that is given to people in sheltered housing would not be available and the sheltered housing community would dissipate. Residents complained of having vermin in their homes and also of the filth, debris and smell all over the estate. It was also noted the green spaces all over the estate where disappearing.
