Morrisons

After praising Morrison a few months ago when I noticed a distinct improvement, I am very disappointed with my last visit last Wednesday. As I got to the till, i noticed that 2 of the apples in a pack I had picked were rotten. The cashier offered to get a replacement but there were 4 people queuing behind me and I felt too embarrassed to ask so I went without apples. Tonight, as I start preparing dinner I find 4 rotten potatoes, yes properly rotten, in the bag I bought 4 days ago. The rest didn't look too clever either so I had to bin them. This is not good enough!

Yes it was easier and quicker way just that you might miss out on some discounts.

I am sure that I will be spot checked eventually but so far I have saved several hours of my life by doing this. So I am still "Hours in". It's not just the waiting it's unpacking the trolly onto the belt then putting things back in the bags.

Have Waitrose ever called you back to check all your shopping, they did that to me one day and it turn out I had not receive  some of the discounts that had been fed to the till so a refund was nice but having to wait for them to put everything through the till delayed me by 20 minutes and I was in a hurry, it was so annoying that I stop using that system and pay at the tills to be sure i get all the discounts, so back to waiting again.

Kim, good idea about monitoring your spending as you go. When I shipped in supermarkets I did this, partially for economic reasons but it also worked wonders in improving my shaky arithmetic!

Luckily I have a car so I have a choice of supermarkets I can reach, bad luck for Morrisons. I have a long school run From Hanworth to Acton so I can pick any store on the way including an Aldi in Feltham. I absolutely love the 'scan and pack' as you go at Waitrose.I stick to the essentials range and I as am aware of how much I spend as I go I am not tempted to throw anything that takes my fancy in the trolley. Checking out takes 1 minute as I do not unload a trolley then repack bags.Shopping takes half an hour less and amazingly I have slashed my food bill by a third by monitoring the spend as I go. I hope other supermarkets roll this out soon.

Have used Ocado for years,first of all because I was a carer and now because of mobility problems. I find fresh produce is good, although not as good quality as M and S, who unfortunately don't deliver. Have never had trouble with short life dates in items. And drivers are polite and helpful and they pay you 5p for each plastic bag you return!

Unlimited midweek deliveries sounds like a good idea but then there's a minimum spend. Seeing as I live on my own a lot of the time I'm not sure I'd always meet that minimum spend.

If fresh produce is important to you then home delivery doesn't really work as you don't get to choose individual pieces and the use by dates on stuff that is delivered can be really short.Don't have a huge problem with Morrisons in Acton and the only point of comparison I have in the chain is the now defunct store at Shepherd's Bush. Our local one was much better. We have started going to the Sainsbury's in Chiswick a bit more as the price differential feels much less than it used to be but either way the grocers on Acton High Street offer the best choice and value for fresh fruit and veg.

Any people get home delivery? For around £30/year most supermarkets offer unlimited mid-week deliveries, there are other plans at different rates, but that's the one I use. I can't bear to trawl the aisles hoping to find some ingredient or other. Could work for James?

I must agree, Acton Morrisons is a big disappointment these days. I find shopping at Sainsbury's in Chiswick or Waitrose at Westfield a much more pleasant experience, and there is a lot more choice as well! Just a shame it's a bit of a schlep to either of these stores, especially for someone like me who doesn't drive!

Even the Ealing one feels like a different store. It is just that a few months ago I felt it was improving, but clearly that was a fluke. Disappointing. Looking forward to Lidl coming to acton.

About three years ago I shopped in the Camden Road Morrisons for a friend. It was a totally different experience from the down at heel looking dump we have here. I think it's a case of the management knowing they've got little competition and just not bothering.

It must depend on who is managing the store Kim, the other Morrison stores are much better than that one and cleaner.
