Acton Park: Birdies closing Putt in the Park opening Pizza section?

Well that's what it says on Facebook and by usually well-informed folk.On balance good news I would think as that close competition made it hard for either to do well.But I do hope it's more than pizza. Mum loves having lunch in the park and loathes pizza.

Putt in the Park told me they're going to knock it through to make their space bigger and start doing more hot food (pizzas and maybe more?).In the meantime their baguettes are really good.

Birdies haven't actually left, have they? I'm there too early for either to be open usually but the signs are still there and the umbrellas so I assume they are still trading. And my mum certainly had lunch there no more than ten days ago.The detritus at the back is still there too - despite all the reporting to the council.

Not sure it was the current owners but the last time I went into Birdies they had the cheek to try to charge me for Ice when their fridge had broken down and all they had was warm coke.The pitch in the park, whilst a little pricey has friendly attentive staff. It was my understanding they couldn't offer food as part of the original deal but now Birdies have left they can do so.Good fur us all I sayCarl

It came up on one of the Acton Facebook pages - in response to Clare's post about the filth out the back of Birdies.I don't think the closure would lead to many/any people losing their livelihoods - there were very few staff apart from the owners who mostly run a catering business which wouldn't necessarily be affected. And anyhow, PITP might need more staff.

Sorry, the loo was clean, the cafe was filthy. I was unclear.I seem to recall that they were obliged to give free access to the loo but I can't remember why now.

No sure how 'on balance' this would be good news for the people who have lost their livelihood as the result of the closure of the business.And Alex, haven't you answered your own question about why they might have struggled to keep the toilets clean? Lots of non-customers using them will have prompted the sign in their attempt to keep up standards for paying customers.

Sorry - Birdies is closing and Putt in Park is opening a Pizza Place in the cafe? Punctuation makes that a bit ambiguous. Anyway, Birdies was awful. Much worse than the previous cafe. I took huge umbrage at their sign forbidding non-customers to use the loo (the only one in the park). Ignored that obviously. Also why could they never manage to keep it clean?Hope the Pizza place does over food too but as long as it still does coffee, I'm happy. Having said that, Birdies did make great coffee to be fair to them.
