Genuine question Carl; what do you expect an MP (any MP) to do about gang culture and knife crime? Introduce a private members bill to ban the sale of knives to teenagers? Already the law. Use the media to raise awareness that it's a problem? I think the media (both national and local) regularly run stories about knife crime already and most people are aware it's an issue. So this is a genuine question, as I hear the retort "someone should do something about this" quite often, yet when asked "what do you think could/should be done?" most people have no ideas to help the situation.Personally I think you need to address why young people, often boys/men, carry knives and why they're prepared to use them on one another, and then work from there (a long term strategy). Short term solutions like stop and search have limited effectiveness as there are a finite number of police resources and S&S has always been an inexact approach to the issue (and studies into S&S in past have shown it had limited effectiveness, hence why the police often don't advocate for it as a solution).
