Re opening of West Acton post office

Has anyone heard anything of the possibility of the post office opening? Maybe if anyone is local to it they could pop in and ask , hopefully we can get some clarification!!!

It's next to the Common Room pub -- at the back of a stationery shop.I've also noticed that Southfield news (next to W Acton post office) are selling more different value stamps and have installed a free cashpoint inside.  I've always liked this shop and hope they do well from these ventures.

I agree it is not looking promising I drive along Ealing Common but couldn't see the post office in that parade It is within another shop?

The cash machine (which only seemed to work when the post office was operating) has been removed.  That doesn't bode well...The Ealing Common post office is a friendly alternative but a long walk away.

I am guessing there is no news on the post office opening in 'September'I went in a few weeks ago but the man basically told me he had no knowledge of it re opening.

I shall direct the councillors' attention to your post Linda and see what they say. It would not be the first time this particular shop has gone back on their word to the councillors, WARA and Royal Mail.

My wife went in a couple of days ago as she needed to post a birthday card & they didn't even have any stamps available! Thankfully the food shop across the road had them for sale.Eddies next door is a better newsagent & West Acton Superstore is a better food shop so without the Post Office function it's a bit of a dead duck.

I popped  in yesterday and saw a notice "post office closed untilFurther notice". I spoke to the  man behind the shop counter )who had actually worked in the post office section from time to time when it was previously open)I mentioned that there had been reports that it was reopening in September and asked him if he knew when this would be.He informed me he had no idea of this and could not comment!Alas it seems that this may not be reopening after all as we had thought/hoped .

Unfortunately the amount of money made in a Post Office doesn't relate to the amount of work required.  They're only in the shops to try to bring in people to spend money in the shop.  Maybe the shop owner can't afford to upfront the costs or they might owe the Royal Mail in which case they can't get more credit until they clear the previous debts. This could explain the delays in re-opening.If I use a local Post Office I always buy something from the shop - it's only fair to the shop owner, as they're providing a useful service which takes up a lot of their time, but from which they make a pittance.

Thanks Sarah, at least it sounds  a bit more promising re opening it again if there is a note!  Watch this space.Wonder when in September it will be.

There's a hand-written sign in the shop that says it is coming back in September.Seems like the decision to open and close the post office is entirely in the gift of the family who run the newsagent. I've been in and told them they need to keep it open, especially for the elderly, vulnerable and disabled people who live near there.

Thank you for the updateHopefully it will actually open this time as in the past a few dates were given and never materialised Also hopefully it will continue to stay open this time    Bizarre how it has shut down suddenly twice since the major refurbishment then stays shut for a considerable length of time
