Forget customer service - they all have their useless call centres designed to fob you off and frustrate you in the unlikely case you get a problem. A few years ago, when I thought I had signed up to a small company that sounded like they were ethical indeed, I ended up with SSE who were running the show for them...Since, I (and many friends) have been going for the quarterly Big London Energy Switch auctions, advertised and supported by many local councils, including Ealing. It is simple, you sign up, fill in an easy form that requires a recent bill to establish your gas/electricity consumption, and then your details are included in the next auction. The suppliers bid for your custom (and that of thousands of people who have also signed up - hence you get a better deal), and you are sent the best offer, fixed for a year. It usually is way cheaper than what you can find yourself. You then decide if you want to take them up on the offer; if you say yes, they really do everything for you so switching is dead easy. You just have to spend another 10 minutes following the same process again 11/12 months later - your supplier is not going to offer you the same good deal when your contract runs out; they will offer you a way more expensive deal, but you resist, another auction, another good deal, sometimes with the same supplier...Btw, a year does not mean a year, so if you happen to switch via the auction two/three weeks before the year is up, you do not have to pay any penalty charges they threaten you with in their initial paperwork, and you can always ask the http://biglondonenergyswitch.ichoosr.com/content/partner/biglondonenergyswitch/landing/ lot for help - they are brilliant.
