New pavement Churchfield Road

Saw last night that they have started to lay a nice new grey pavement on the far end of churchfield road towards central station. Only on one side at the moment but looks very nice. anyone know if they plan to do this all the way down? be great if it could also be widened to allow more alfresco dining. could also do with a few more trees to give the area a real 'village' feel- if any council guys are reading this, take note!

Apparently the trees are going in the road where the parking currently is. If you look at the plan, you can see the curb and then the 'shared' parking and tree area just outside of that.Well, that is what the plan shows, so we'll see. What they definitely don't seem to have done is pave all the way up to the shop fronts.

Now replaced the pavement the other side of the road. Seems to be scaled back a lot from those plans- no parking bays or wider pavements, and a lot of the trees are missing. Always happens when the council promise great things and you think the area is being improved but the reality is completely different.

The footfall along Churchfield Road, though, is very heavy so the chances of a serious trip or slip rather high.And it was in a terrible state.Not that is should be an either/or but it must be a high priority.

sorry to sound a bit sour about this, but rather than prettyfying Churchfield Road it would have been nice for the pavements along East Churchfield Road to be repaired. they are in a dreadful state and have been so for many years. a real hazard.

Yes, that is the one.My understanding is that the final scheme is not 100% the same as was originally proposed - e.g. no benches in what is coming.However, I have not found a written description of what was finally agreed.

This is part of a consultation that’s been going on for a few years now. It happened just after the traffic calming consultation. I got info through the letterbox, I live at the top of Alfred road and the new tray at the junction of Alfred and Churchfield Road was part of the consultation papers I received. Could people keep an eye on the tree situation? Would be an absolute travesty if they start digging them up for paving slabs and don't put them back. The street needs its character.

There are supposed to be new trees planted as part of this scheme so hopefully some will appear further up the road.

It's all looking quite nice, but there are now less trees. They removed two trees from outside English butchers and the  accountants, but there are no places to put them back.Disappointing to say the least.

I dug deeper .... the new stop & shop bays will be painted on road only so no need to dig up pavement etc.

But hopefully they will take it I to account while doing the pavement work ... it would be a waste of effort to répit in new paving and then take them out again to make new stopping bays.

Wierdly the stop and shop bays are part of the controlled parking scheme, funded by a different pot.

I heard today at the Ward forum meeting that there will be some new 1 hour car parking bays - I presume as part of this work.

I'm assuming that the Council plan for the part pedestrianisation of Churchfield Road, which they asked shop owners about last year, isn't going ahead if they're re-doing the pavements.Shame if it's not going ahead, it was a good idea and involved closing the street for weekend markets and events.

It's money from the Mayor bid for by Mill Hill Park Residents Association and the deputy Director of Regeneration jointly.Kudos to both. It's being done in stages to allow the street to continue functioning and yes there will be trees. Sadly nothing for the top end where the Oaks us being built.

Plus it's bloody dangerous trying to cross the road at that end. No zebra crossing and the building works have taken up all the pavement.  Are they allowed to do that?

Can't wait for the top end to be sorted out. The bottleneck by the oaks is a bit of an issue I think.

It's been going on  for at least 3 weeks. My dad could have it all done by now!! It does look a lot nicer though.
