Black and White Cat

Anyone lost their cat? We have a fairly chunky black and white cat who sleeps curled up virtually all day beneath the privet hedge of our front garden, and has been doing this for several weeks now. She/he looks healthy enough, if very lethargic (won't come to us, though – runs away), but we worry what it will be like when the weather gets properly cold. Thought would try here first before contacting cat rescue.

It's probable he lives locally if he looks healthy and not distressed in any way.

Thanks, that's interesting and helpful. Not sure if he's there all through the night (as I'm normally asleep ha ha!), but he's often been there in the dark, early evening at least. There does seem to be a difference of opinion between you cat people whether to intervene or not. He's actually disappeared in the last 24 hrs so...

The average feline sleeps 17 hours a day. Is he there all through the night? If not, I wouldn't worry, esp as she "looks healthy enough". Outdoor cats curl up where and when they like and the dark side of a privet hedge sounds a nice enough spot. And both my much-loved furbs run away when approached by strangers.

Yes, we were concerned around firework night particularly, but he (think it's a tom) was in residence quite some time before that. I don't think he's injured, judging by the way he runs away when you approach, but clearly not totally happy. Anyway, things are in hand: Anne Bradley from Cats Protection is on the case and I think intends to 'grab him' ( in the nicest possible way!) in the next few days.
