Moving back to Acton

I moved out around 8 years ago . I did come back a few weeks back to check out Churchfield Rd & Poets Corner where I once lived. Quite a few changes - for the better! I am looking to buy in the area around Leythe Road or Poets Corner. Just wondered what the good folk of W3 think is good about the area and anything that has changed for the worse. Also what’s happening to the site of the dreadful Oaks shopping centre ? Can’t believe the dreadful empty building at the end of the high street is still empty albeit disguised by a huge panel - some things never change !

I love Acton! Especially now The fantastic Aeronaut is back! I was brought up in Chiswick which has become, in my opinion, soulless and dull. Full of coffee chains, charity shops and estate agents. My neighbours in my street are so friendly and we have a strong sense of community. Yes there's no denying that there are a few undesirables on the streets of Acton but look past that and focus on what's good about Acton- Strong sense of community, great places to buy ingredients brought in to the area by the many different cultures, loads of great pubs ( George and dragon, the aeronaut, rocket, station house) vindinista wine bar, Acton park and Gunnersbury park, overground, district, Piccadilly lines, new climbing wall, hopefully arts centre, new shopping 'mall', pitch n putt, independent shops and cafes opening up all the time. I think it's great. 😊

No Worse?Actually, this is making me slightly cheerier - and I have been in an Eeyore phase recently.Lovely cappuccino this morning at the new deli - and an opportunity to practice my entry level Italian.And I just paid my first ever visit to Acton Job Centre, which smells of wee and worry but where the officer was punctual and incredibly helpful (well we hope he was effectively helpful)

The Arch climbing centre is moving into the old Gala Bingo. work is progressing very fast. Oxygen trampolining in Park Royal is a huge success.Westfield is 10 minutes away on my bicycle and the travel links are second to none with a choice of 7 stations. Acton Park now boasts a mini golf, adventure playground, exercise machines and climbing equipment and maybe soon a skate park.I haven't seen the horse, dr John keeps going on about but plenty of friendly people and places. No worse than most places in London I'd say.

Yes Tony,you right,could not wait to get out,stll a one horse town,sorry would not move back,even though i can afford to do so,much to your regret i will stay on line,and i still have many connections with Acton,sorry regards John.

There are good things though:Wine barseveral nice coffee shops including the new Italian oneBook swap (I would say that)Overground in generalPark is well kept and now has exercise machines and the putting - which is about to get a pizza oven.Junior Park Run.Market stalls,Book clubPlaying Out in some streets.Hakkekat.

Janice,I lived in Acton for many years,saw the place go down hill,now a one horse town,went down after Ealing took over,a great place no more regretfully,regards John.

Why are you moving back Marek, I'm not there much since my friend passed away although originally from Acton, there is such a mix of people the thing I would say is it kind of has a heart which used to give you a lively feeling and say used to as it's been picked at and hope it won't stop beating, would love to live there again but my only friends now are where I live now.

They are making a complete hash of churchfield road and are pulling trees down to make parking bays. Curzon Cinema and Waitrose pulled out of Acton and I've seen 2 new fried chicken shops open. Now announced council is 73m in the red due to poor decision making which I'm pretty sure would mean ramping up our council tax. I bought here 6 months ago and prices are now dropping. Wish I had waited and bought in Chiswick instead.

The old gala bingo hall on the high street (near the rail bridge) has been acquired by Arch Climbing Wall and is to be converted to a climbing centre, of all things. Due to open in early 2018.

Although a nine-storey block where the Oaks used to be is exceptionally unlikely to be an enhancement to the area.The M&S is just a small Simply Food, from what I understand.But there are lots of good additions to Churchfield Road, little positive new in the High Street and a rotting hulk where we used to have a library and are not going to be having a Curzon (or I would wager anything much instead)

Hi Marek, I really like living in the area. The old Oaks shopping centre will be an M&S and Lidl. No doubt you will hear a few people moaning about this here in a moment. There was meant to be a Waitrose, but they pulled out and some people are unhappy about this. All in all Acton is getting better all the time.
