Out of date food in Morrisons

This afternoon I went into Morrisons to buy some eggs. I was horrified to find they were selling eggs that had a 'Display Until' date of 27th NOVEMBER and a Best Before date of 4th December. They should have been taken off sale two weeks ago.I asked to speak to the manager, but they were 'in a meeting'. The member of staff I did speak to, seemed unconcerned and explained it by telling me they shouldn't have been in that shelf, they should have been taken off. My question is does no-one check the dates on the items when new stock is put out? A day after the 'Display Until' date could be explained, but two weeks?This is not the first time I have had issues with out of date food. Anyone else experienced this?

It has one of the highest footfalls - but I think the problem is the, in spite of that, it isn't one of the most profitable.Bought very good fish and vegetables there today though.Even though they refused to honour my out-of-date More vouchers - which was irritating.

Hard to believe based on these comments that they are I recall reading a few years ago that it is allegedly one of the most profitable Morrisons branches in the UK?

I took the car to Morrisons a couple of weeks back and the experience was like entering Mordor. The staff appeared to have lost the will to live. It was scruffy, shelves were not filled, fruit juice had leaked over other cartons making them all sticky, a wine offer (on their website) didn’t exist.That store has always had staff attitude problems and the management seem uninterested in addressing this.Except in rare circumstances I’m disinclined to go in there...

Also a bit ghostly (ladies) was in 1st cubicle and heard very clearly someone walk past and go in 3rd cubicle when I came out to wash my hands noticed both the other doors were open but it was very quiet so I look in both and they were empty.  After that the end door was always out of use and locked shut which I was quite pleased about, this was before they were refurbished.  Has anyone else had strange experience in there or anyone know what stood there before, I know there were cottages and a green but what was exactly where the loos are.

My last visit to Morrisons left me feeling I was in a pound shop! There were many bargain basement offers  of items at £1, usually cakes, biscuits and  a few cleaning products. But this discount was cancelled out by other items which I found to be more expensive than in other stores, notably Magnum ice creams which on this occasion were £1 more than Waitrose! Swings and roundabouts. Generally I get frustrated by empty shelves, often for the branded items I want. Staff are friendly and helpful but the store needs an overhaul.

they are just to help the store's organisation of its turnover on the shelves and not for consumers.  However this is often confused by consumers who move boxes around.Best Before and Use By are the ones you need to know about and it is perfectly legal to sell food after its best before date as best before is just a quality thing eggcept for eggs which you need to be more careful about and the last I read on those was that you could leave them a couple of days over but you should then cook them fully eg bake a cake.  What a good excuse!https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/article/date-labels

Some supermarkets are selling produce after the best before date at a reduced price to cut down on waste not that I would want them but eggs are a different matter.

Think the staff are usually very nice and pretty helpful. It's never been very well managed but the bread is ace and produce mostly good. And its near and fairly cheap.Egg dates ALWAYS need checking in every shop.

Morrisons' housekeeping is poor. I've seen empty shelves (funnily enough that was in the section where the eggs should have been), out-of-date stock and products with the wrong price tickets. Last time I went they had run out of the smaller trolleys. They just don't seem to have any standards to live up to.

Thanks for the warning. I generally avoid that Morrisons branch as it always seems a bit grubby and uncared for.  Go to the Ealing branch and see the difference.I wonder if their fresh food is kept with the same slap dash attitude?  They sell shellfish which can kill you if it's not kept properly, but I won't lose sleep, I'll just shop elsewhere.

Just pick up a pack that is in date and try not to lose sleep over it. More important things in life to worry about then to get stressed by some eggs you didn't purchase.

Every supermarket has this occasionally though rarely quite so out of date as those. Just always check. Oh, and resist any attempt to do away with use-by-dates for precisely this reason: it'll mean more inedible food on the shelves.
