Philippa,When applied our regulations are fine,the main job of overseeing this was taken from fire authorities,and yes they need change and a good overhaul,no blocks should be over ten floors in height,brigade ladders and hydraulic platforms reach 30 mtrs,100 feet,but if the means of escape is correct,people should be able to make their way to safety without the recourse of ladders,ropes,etc,one single staircase does not meet this requirement?cuts in the fire service are taking their toll,and more lives will be lost before someone wakes up and realises we have cut too far?regards John.
