Salt beef

I have always loved salt beef and was thrilled to find Tim English has been trying his hand at that very thing today. I mentioned that he might put one of his witty adverts outside his shop But if you were thinking of cold meat salad or sandwiches there you are. Just add pickle and potato salad

Corned beef hash is great as is corned beef and pickle on a butty. I also like it fried, without any added oil, for breakfast in place of bacon.I prefer it to salt beef but you can't argue taste.

Right as usual Keith, but in Ireland, we eat it hot with cabbage and mashed potato. Salt beef is most often eaten  with pickle as a sandwich or a bagel filling. Hence my father's surprise that 'foreign food' could taste so good.

I took my father to eat salt beef in a resturant on Bond St. He pronounced it 'OK' which was high praise from a man who only liked his own cuisine and ate bacon  & cabbage every week of his life. Its likecorned beef if that helps. Delicious!

I had some at Gail's with Sara once. I found it a bit ... salty. The chips were ace, though.
