Salisbury Street Car Park

Not sure if this is an issue that has been raised here before but has it ever been proposed to change the parking arrangements at the Salisbury Street car park — the one behind the old Town Hall? Whenever I have tried to park there it has been full which presumably is due to annual parking permits being sold at what is the relatively cheap price of £400. Wouldn't it be better not to sell annual permits and limit the hours that people can park there to discourage commuter parking? With the loss of the Oaks Parking and possible loss of Morrisons car park it could be that there will nowhere for anybody wanting to shop in Acton or use its facilities to park which will put even more pressure on already beleaguered local businesses.

I don't know if there is a car park with the new Oaks but there will certainly be a reduction from what was there previously. You make a good point about tradesmen or anybody else who works with tools or equipment that they need to bring to their place of work in a vehicle. Assuming they can afford to buy one of these flats currently planning policy thinking is that most units shouldn't come with associated parking. However, if the shared bay policy is introduced in local CPZs which the Council now say they plan to do, the cost of parking for someone who took their car to work would be quite minimal. They generally wouldn't need to pay because their car wouldn't be there during operational hours of the CPZ and they could park it where they like when they return home. If they needed to leave their car at home on odd days they would only have to pay the daily charge.  Alternatively they could buy an annual pass at the Salisbury Road car park.

Is there no plan for Parking in the oaks? where are the residents of the new flats going to park? Or is it in the terms that they cannot have cars? The streets nearby are already congested with parked cars. It's all very good trying to discourage car ownership but what is a tradesman to do. Balance his tools on a bicycle?
