cats eating my cat's food

Ladies and Gentlemen of Accacia/Cumberland Road. Do any of you know the owners of a large grey and white cat (not friendly) and a beautiful all black cat (very friendly). They have decided my house is an all day buffet and turn up to eat my cat's food anytime,but especially at night. I don't mind the odd nibble from outsiders but my female cat only eats a little at a time and to remove her bowl once she has eaten is pretty cruel. I don't think I can lock the cat door because she is nine years old and used to going in and out as she pleasesI think my visitors are male. They let themselves in through the cat door and in the case of the friendly black one, strolls around the house if the kitchen door is open. Poor Juniper is starving as a consequence. If you are the owner, or know the owner, can we come to an arrangement about your cats?

Same.We have three cats (don't ask...) but they are all chipped, and the smart catflap is their VIP entrance into their home, which they allow us to co-habit. The new devices even tell you who's in and who's out on the prowl at any time via smartphone apps.

Never heard of this, sounds like a good idea better than on the collar because they can lose the collar then they are stuck outside or inside.

We had that problem but now we have a flap that opens only for our cat and he is so happy now - no stress in the home. It responds to the microchip in his ear...it is not cheap but so worth it

Thanks Amanda and Lorna. I don't think my grey and white cat is Milo. No collar for one thing and always hungry. The black one has beautiful fur and an entitled air which suggests he has another loving home somewhere close by. I am thinking of getting a new back door anyway so will look at a different cat door.

If you don't want to shut your cat in at night (my cats are always shut in, every night) the only way to keep strange cats out is to get a cat flap that opens only for yours. They are available either activated by the cat's microchip, or by a tag on a collar.You can't really expect your neighbours to control their cats - cats aren't controllable!PS I think you can also get a feeder that is activated by a cat's microchip: it opens for them and them only, and closes when they have finished eating. Not cheap, but might do the trick.

MaireThe large grey and white cat sounds very like one who inhabits our garden and lives at 4 Cumberland Villas - he has a name tag with Milo on it.The black one is around occasionally, but we usually have a pure grey one in our garden that lives at 3 Cumberland Villas.Both Milo and the grey cat came into my home, even though I have a tall gate across my open back door. They jumped on the window sill outside and then came in through the arched top!. The gate now has mesh over it. (We have the gate so we can have the door open but nothing can come in/go out - or that was the idea!)
