Much of Acton was built many years ago, and supplied using cables that are now well past their sell-by date. My area was built in the 1930's, and the cables are steel armoured paper and shellac insulated cables that will leak water if disturbed. Cadent have been inserting plastic liners into all the local gas pipes, and this has exposed a few horror stories. I noticed damaged rusty armouring splayed out around one cable, but Cadent had done their best to ensure none of the damage was caused by them, they used a huge vacuum excavator.
