Homebase site amendments - from 16 to 19 storeys

E mail notification received of amendments under Section 73 and... 'given the good infrastructure in the area' (!!!)  Developers are proposing an additional 31 flats, increasing one block from 16 to 19 storeys, a second from 11 to 13 storeys and a third from 6 to 7.Updated proposals at: www.barratt-westerncircus.co.uk.Beggars belief

I understand that the current trend in university accommodation is to have some communal living space as small single units can cause isolation and be detrimental to good mental health.

I understood, although I may be wrong that c.30% of all new build had to be affordable i.e. 80% of market rent, so putting another couple of storeys on is giving another 11 so called affordable homes, but another 22 to sell with no extra land costs. The PR makes out they are doing us a favour by providing another 11 homes, they are not they have to! Affordable is not what Acton needs, we need homes at Social or London Living Rents, three bedrooms at least.

Certainly the same percentage of flats should be affordable.

I was surprised to read that only 35% of the additional flats would be 'affordable'.  Thats 11.  Why doesn't the council insist that if Barratt want permission to build more homes than has already been approved then all the new must be 'affordable'  Surely Barratt Homes will have made enough profit on the other 330 homes that they are building on the Homebase site that they can afford to do this.People need homes that they can afford to buy/rent and then live in

I just looked at the Barratt images of the new site. Never has the A40 looked so inviting and pastoral. Are they planning improvements to the environment at savoy circus too?

There is a rumour Imperial will be taking some for student accommodation.. This is bad news as students don't pay Council Tax, so will not help the borough's dire financial situation.

Looking at the latest news on new builds in Acton, doesn’t matter how big they build it no one will want to live there.
