Ealing Resident Permit Pricing Tool

Have you received the above from ealing council and tried such ?There is no distinction between flats at the same address.So if you are applying or renewing  a PP and there is already one or more at such address you will have to pay more for it.Surely it should be per household ?

If the people who sold you the Audi told you that it was less polluting because of technology they weren't necessarily lying. The Council are only given lower permit prices to the most recent standard of diesels — Euro 6. The Euro 5 standard which was introduced a few years before almost entirely eradicates particulate emissions due to the filters installed. They also have a much lower level of Nitrogen Dioxide emissions but still well above that for a petrol car.  The problem is there is no research that shows Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)  in the concentrations in which it occurs in our atmosphere is harmful to health. The problem is that high levels of NO2 always coincide with high levels of particulates because they come from the same source. We know the latter can be harmful to health but it is difficult to conclude that NO2 makes this any worse. The likelihood is that your diesel car does no extra harm to air quality that the equivalent petrol car and owning one does benefit the global environment because of the lower CO2 emissions. Ealing aren't likely to want to consider this because they can use the perception that diesel cars are bad to raise more money from you.

My Audi A3 diesel has gone upto £130 in zone K1! I understand that the use and purchase of diesel cars should be phased out and rightly so but like a lot of people when I bought it, I was given the impression that it was full of technology to make it a less polluting diesel (ie, as diesels go, not that bad). I would love to change my car but can't afford to. Now I have to pay £130 for the privilege of not even being able to park on my road at times due to Zone K/K1/K2 changes last year. Talk about adding insult to injury.

If I understand things correctly, it's based on the vehicle. Even at the moment, you have to pay more for a second permit if you have more than one vehicle registered at the same address. The new angle is that each vehicle is now to be rated on emissions, with the older and/or more polluting vehicles being charged at a higher rate.
