Ealing Council Parking Services

Since paper permits were done away with, I find it more important than ever that the on line service is user friendly but I don't think it is.  We have two cars in our household one is registered to me and I am the person who is registered to use the Parking Services on line thingy.  However, I don't know how to check up on my husbands car, i.e. when the permit expires etc.  I sent an e-mail to someone on 13th February and have just received a reply, telling me to ring a phone number and leave a message, after which someone will get back to me within 3 days.  How can this be an acceptable way to run anything?

Well, having finally signed my husband up, so that we both now have accounts with Ealing Council.  When I log in, parking permit information is not one of the services available.  I then found somewhere on the Ealing Council site a place to log in for parking permit information, but when I tried to log in, it only gives an option to start a new application.  I am not stupid, but this website makes me doubt my ability and my sanity.  Before the system changed I am sure I logged in and it was quite simple.  I did call as I was told before, left a message, but missed the call back, so I am now having to call again,leave another message and hope I don't miss the next call.  It is so stressful.

FYI - I noticed yesterday that council is about to phase out RingGo and replace it with PayByPhone

Phillipa, I spoke to someone at Ealing, a miracle in itself.  You can call on 0208 825 6677 option 6, and they call you back, quite quickly in my case.  They are helpful and you can call from a landline as I understand it to book visitors parking, although the RingGo option is more flexible.  I was told they are changing to a new pay to park system next month, so maybe not worth stressing yourself out trying to sign up to RingGo.  Please try and speak to someone to confirm this information.  They accept that the on line system is bad and hopefully will be changed at some point.

Well done Philippa Bond. I presume as part of your commitment to a low energy future you have taken out your boiler which pumps large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere and no longer plug electrical items in so you aren’t wasting electricity. I presume you walk or cycle everywhere so as to minimise your carbon footprint.The 20mph zones don’t work in Greenford. They don’t work on Acton. They won’t work in South Ealing.

We have yet to manage to sort out visitors permits.  I understand that they can be booked on the computer as well as on the phone.  I too have an old Nokia.  Our last attempt at registering for RingGo was a stressful failure.  It was stressful enough just getting our permit renewed!

Stop sticking your head in the sand Simon Hayes.  If you are free tomorrow why not take yourself along to the Excel Centre and learn something about planning for a low energy future for Britain?  It is the last day (and it is shorter than the others) of the Futurebuild (used to be Ecobuild) conference.The 20mph will be enforced the same way that other restrictions are enforced when you don't have enough police - they will every so often stop everyone exceeding the limit just the same as they check everyone for VED and insurance etc, waste operator licences etc.

It’s not acceptable but it’s indicative of the utter contempt the council has for the people who live in the borough. Of course, if they make life so difficult for you you may have to get rid of one or both cars, fitting in nicely with mr Bell’s ant-car agenda.We’ve just been inflicted with a 20mph zone across South Ealing but last night the local Labour councillors admitted there was no way to enforce it. Stupid people making stupid decisions at the taxpayers expense!
