New Trees being planted

A thank you to Ealing Council for planting lots of new trees in Action. Berrymead Gardens look lovely now with all the newly planted Trees. :)

We requested one aeons ago, it took years to arrive but has now been with us about five years. We watered a  lot when it was small and still keep an eye out for dry spells when it might need help.Its now tall and straight and has beautiful autumns. Also the last tree in the street to blossom in spring (no sign yet) so extends the cheery spring-blossom season.Its brought us a lot of joy so its always asking the council for more in your street.And we have just planted a new tree in the back garden too... saving the planet one  tree at a time,....

Have we inadvertently uncovered the one LBE Department that actually functions properly?  :-"Dear XXXXX,Thank you for your email that has been passed to me. I have recently joined Ealing Council as the Tree Officer for your area. I do agree with you that XXXXXXXXXX Road does look  under represented with trees. I will pay a visit in the next week or so and if possible arrange for some planting to take place this autumn/winter.Thank you XXXXXXXXXXXX  "

So how many people have walked past those trees near Hillcrest Road Surgery and seen them struggling?Come on folks we need trees, greenery and gardens for our health and wellbeing.  Even if you can't carry the watering can - as a team I'm sure we could help to keep them alive.Fingers-crossed Rosco.  Keep us posted!

Have emailed a request for trees in my street to the Tree Manager who has copied me his email to his staff member instructing to look into it and notify me within 21 days.Maybe this is the only Department in LBE that actually functions competently?We shall see, I will keep y'all posted.  :-)

Why not use the information we have contained in the thread to contact the Council.  Only if you have new trees planted please look after them and water them if necessary.Beryl - are there other people you see at the surgery that you could encourage to help with looking after the trees round the corner from the surgery?  Or anyone at the surgery who could make a group to adopt them?

I asked the council for a tree to be planted outside my house. It arrived and has its own reference number. I watered it every day last summer and it now seems to be flourishing. I think everyone should request a tree because they hugely improve Acton.

I've just had to revive some plants in the garden as it has been drier than I thought.It was interesting to hear on Gardeners Question Time that adding a little extra compost to the soil could help keep moisture in.  I must investigate further!

I've bumped the previous thread started by Niki Scrase on saplings:The message is on 11/08/18 from Kris Smith"Well done everyone for watering the trees in your area. Some positive news and probably one of the better negotiations with a private contractor, who is obliged to change saplings  up to three years old if they do not take. The council contractor should also water newly planted trees and change any defective posts. Try emailing Dale Mortimer MortimerD@ealing.gov.uk who is the trees manager at Ealing."

I agree Philippa, in the time it would take trying to get through to someone at the council you could pop down with a watering can and water a whole avenue of trees! We should have an adopt a tree campaign and encourage people to look after the trees near their homes.

That's good news.  Please will everyone look out for them especially if they are in need of water in the dry spells or need re-securing to their stakes.  Last time there was a problem it took quite a while to find the right person at the Council to do something about it.
