The oaks taking shape

Walk passed today it seems won't belong before opening.Still waiting mind to find who going to open inthe oaks.

There are stairs visible from the front high St entrance. The gym is going to be on the 1st floor with entrance from Churchfield Road.

I went for a walk to check ... the door is there and there is an escalator down to the floor below plus a temporary sign referring to the shopping mall.So it looks like it is for real.

Found another reference to it in one of the early plans. Difficult to know if the plans changed afterwards though. In this picture, Churchfield Road is on the right and the burial ground at the bottom.
Plan clearly shows food store entrance.

On the plans there appears to be an entrance about halfway down the burial ground wall - and that path continues around the burial ground and weaves its way to High St.It is marked as "Main Entrance" but not clear if it is for public use or for access to flats.

So won't there be access to the shopping centre from Churchfield Road. We'll have to walk all the way around it to get in it? I hope not.

Just so at to clarify given my rather confusingphraseology.It's Langley Drive which leads on to Crown Street. The alleyway being referred to next to the doctors surgery leads southwards from the Avenue and ismore or less a southerly continuation of Langley Drive.michael adams...

I assume what's being referred to is a routealongside the alley way next to the doctors surgery at the junction of Avenue Road and what is now Langley Drive which leads on the Crown Street. Previously Langley Drive, the alleyway route and the now truncated road beyond all used to form Park Road North and linked Bollo Bridge Road to Crown Street and thus the High Street.michael adams  ...

Worst issue of all is the arse end of the development is on Churchfield Road, which has no shop fronts just a huge loading bay and the shop stock rooms and offices. So the nicest street in Acton is only going to see constant trucks loading and unloading and the rear end of an ugly building with no benefits

Its a good point Lee. Most buildings look out of place as they don't have any context to the surroundings. Planners think just planting new buidings grows communities. It doesn't, quite the opposite. It takes generations to build a community. Acton Gardens whilst not really nodding to South Actons history is at least a cohesive overall plan with many open spaces and variety of design together with people friendly paths and car slowing roads. They are also opening up the road from Bollo Bridge Road to the High Street, reopening an ancient route that the planners destroyed in the last flattening of South Acton 50 years ago.

The building is so badly and cheaply made, there are frames around the windows that don’t match up and have exposed fixings, horrid cable trunking on the outside, the fake bricks look tacky and cheap and someone needs to get sacked for the revolting orange squiggles. Nothing has any context to the buildings of the surrounding area. At least the new Acton gardens flats look attractive and considered.

Earlier announcements suggested M&S Simply Food, Lidl and Wilko were to be 'anchor' tenants. I have to say, walking round and looking at the completed development, it doesn't seem to be quite the overpowering monstrosity people were worried about - except for the orange squiggles!
