Kalinka, Churchfield Road

Further to Clare Gittins review of this new-ish local eatery on the front page of the Newsletter, we went as a family last night (Saturday) and definitely concur: everything was freshly prepared, generous portions were presented with smiles and it didn't leave a huge hole in wallets. It is a mix of Portuguese and Turkish dishes (& beers), reflecting the nationalities of the husband and wife team who own it. A welcome addition to the menus from North China, Thai Nice & l'Oriental in our kitchen drawer.  Recommended.

Agreed, I normally go for a coffee and a custard cake during the day in their al fresco (when it's not raining).

Just read the review on the front page. I am starving and sounds divine. Will tell hubby and what with the credit crunch the menu sounds both appetising and financialy appealing. I must admit the big neon signs had put me off but I will venture in now. Good for us to have reviews on the website I say.

We went to Kalinka on Friday evening.  It was quite busy.  Service was good, food tasty and price very reasonable-2 starters, 2 main courses, one desert, two coffees,a fizzy water and a bottle of wine for £37.We will definitely be there again.

We went on Friday too. Lovely dinner and I took my dessert home as a take away to enjoy in front of the telly with my feet up (pregnant), well worth a visit again.

Really fresh and delicious food -- hot off the grill(!) -- and very kind and personal service.  One can tell that they are putting a lot of care into their food and their business.  Feels like a family operation!Very kind to my baby daughter and me.  We'll definitely go again.  When we last went (July 08) there weren't baby changing facilities, but that may well have changed by now.  They mentioned they were working on it.

Went tonight after an exceptionally stressful day...why would a journey to Bristol to deliver to uni take two hours there and three back? I HATE the M4...to find L'Oriental closed so we gave Kalinka a go and it was great: lovely warm fresh turkish bread, good hummous and then two tasty chicken dishes plus those yummy char-grilled whole, hot peppers...charming service and unbelievably cheap.Strongly recommended

I went to Kalinka Sunday evening with six family members.The food was lovely especially the meat dishes,three of us had pineapple cake with ice cream which was delicious.The young couple who run it are charming and the prices very reasonable,Do hope they can make a go of it as they deserve to.

Just popped in for a chicken wings - the rest of the family being at the footie - and I can't work out how they stay in business: very tasty chicken wings and chips with a delightful fresh salad ...complementary bread and olives, a bottle of beer and all, including service, leaving change from a tenner.But just me and one couple there. Get on down before they realise that won't make a living.

Sara – Just the 3 hours to get back from Bristol. My mother set off from the Midlands, down the M40, at 12:30 to spend some time with my girls during half term. She arrived just gone 5pm!She de-stressed with a glass of red wine or two, but maybe we should take her to the Kalinka tonight.....

standard was still ever so high last night...but only one other customer was eating in on the restaurant side - though a few chaps in the cafe bit and some more downstairs playing pool. I hope that's enough to keep them going.Slightly odd feel for me in that I was the only woman there the whole time - it felt very middle-eastern with the shadowy women at home presumably minding the children and the chaps gathering to drink and eat and talk in public.

We went last night and it was really tasty - especially the borek (puff pastry filled with soft cheese and spinach)plus, after week on the Euro in the rippingest off place in Europe: the south of France, - it is stunnigly good value.

They have split the restaurant and the cafe - restaurant being anatolian (sort of Turkish) cuisine)Both starters we wanted were off and it was only the second night s a few slight teething problems....but they gave us complimentary meze as a result.The big news is that the bread is wholly fantastic.Main course good too - I had an intersting chicken in tomato and yoghurt on bread and the more conventional dishes looked good too.The double platter for two is enough to feed a small army.And lots of people there too whihc was cheery.
