22 and new to the area

Hi there! My name's Carly, I'm 22 and I've just moved to Acton. I'm brand new to the area and I was wondering if you guys could recommend anything fun to do around here?Cheers,C

Welcome - what counts as fun for you?There are pubs and clubs for most tastescomedy nights - stand up etc at the Rocket and Kings Headgyms - at least four really nearbycafes and restaurants at several prices and all stylessnooker downstairs at Kalinka - though a girl on her own? dunno if I would be brave enoughMovies at Park Royal Vue...Westfield Vue...Ealing..Watermans..all within push-biking distance...plus arty-house screenings at the Rocket (but few young people at those)Need more guidance for anything else!

Probably would like to get to know some local people to go to pubs and restaurants with. Is John Mc taken? ;) I run life drawing sessions upstairs at the Rocket on Monday nights, if that's of any interest - friendly bunch and a break for drinks. And there is the film club and book club held there, too.

Isn't he a bit mature for 22 year-old even if untaken? And book-group and film clubs - though fab - don't feature many people in their twenties. Maybe that doesn't matter but for many it would.

In the humble opinion of a middle-aged 20 year old I would recommend the following in and around Acton:Best Chinese – The North China on Uxbridge RoadBest Curry – The Jubraj on Gunnersbury AvenueBest Thai – most people go for Thai Nice on Uxbridge Road but I go for the Old Packhorse on Chiswick High RoadBest club if you don’t mind getting your shoes dirty – The Redback on Uxbridge Road, great bands but does get a bit messy, well it does when I’m thereBest friendly tennis club (with cheap beer) – The Gunnersbury Triangle Tennis Club off Gunnersbury LaneBest pub – Red Apple and Pineapple on the Uxbridge Road

He means the Red Lion and Pineapple. Some would say (as my 21 year old daughter now does!)that it's a bit full of schoolkids but it's probably the "youngest" pub.Acton also heaving with what my kids call "old man" pubs too...rather perversely they seem to quite like them.

My daughters would I think recommend heading into Richmond if you like to dance.

There is also stand up comedy at George IV on Chiswick High Rd.The Tabard pub in Chiswick has plays and Al Murray often does his warm up acts there before heading to the west end.Agreed Richmond has lots of great bars/restaurants and Theatre about 10 mins on train from Acton Central.The Rocket on Churchfield Rd is great and does fab food.And as a 22 year old you may indeed like the Red Back or as some like to call it the Bed Rack!!!

HiThe Grand Union and the nearby Eagle at the southern end of Askew Road are good, young fun crowd. The Grand Union is open 'til 3am Fri and Sat nights.Princess Victoria for a great meal or maybe the Brook on Stamford Brook Lane.The Rocket and The Station House offer a great Friday night to relax in a busy, friendly vibe after work straight off the train.Fancy Thai? I would recommend CJ's on the Vale and it's BYO, brilliant.Your only a short run from Westies by bus or tube for a all your shopping and chain restaurant needs aswell as a great 3D cinema. Don't miss the champagne bar!Farmers Market in the square on Saturdays. Eggs & Bacon , yum! Tortilla's from the Spanish guy is great.Virgin Active for swimming, tennis, spa and gym on Bromyard Avenue.The Bollo, on Bollo lane for Sunday Roast.Have fun,

is there a 22 year old that can afford the Westfield champagne bar?It's appallingly over-priced.However, Prosecco at the Rocket is quite reasonable

Carly I think that most of the people who use this site are old and doddery. I wouldn't ask them because they are so narrow minded.Just watch the respose to this and you'll get the picture.

Carly... I'm new to the area also, and if you ask nicely, some of these lovely people will go out with you, but If they do ever organise social get togethers, I think they should have at least one dedicated evening where they welcome new people! By the way, welcome to W3.
