Passport photos

Does anyone have suggestions of where to get an 'nice' passport photo that doesn't cost a fortune?  The ones I have had done at Snappy shots make me look like a 'before' advert - and I don't want that for the next 10 years!  Last time I had one done at a little studio on Chiswick High Road (now sadly closed) for only a bit more than the photo booths & they at least made me look presentable.

My brood had theirs done recently at the small chemist on Gunnersbury Lane between Acton Town tube and Gunnersbury Park and they seemed quite good, not sure about the price but I think it was about £6 for four.

You could try Horn Lane Pharmacy, 148 Horn Lane.They do quite good photos for passports. Telephone No. 0208 992 0264I think they charge about £4.99.

There's a photo booth in the Oaks, Acton High Street.Can't remember how much it charges. 3 or 4 pounds. Gives photo choices.

If you use a booth, take a sheet of white paper to hold on lap/under face to bounce the flash upwards and minimise eye shadows. Wearing a light colour will help, too. Don't sit too high up, or closer than you have to (dome head) and even if you don't normally use it, wear powder to prevent the flash highlighting every little bump/bag on your skin.

I think the Horn Lane Pharmacy is much better than Snappy Snaps (like you I had to go for a re-shoot) But I bet Nish tries really hard to ensure his customers are happy. He's only started doing it really recently.

I had them done at Snappy Snaps - cost me £9 and they were awful.  I am so vain, I then went and had a second go at the local Post Office machine near my office.  They were so much better, and I got 3 tries before I had to make a final decision.

Thanks for all the advice.  I think I'll try the Horn Lane Pharmacy - but not until I've washed my hair, applied some make up etc...

Yeah, much better to get a human using a camera rather than one of those photo-booths, I recently used the one in the oaks, and I was not impressed with the results, my forehead seemed to have grown by about 3-5 inches, there is not enough space inside to maneuver my giant head into the proper position.
