Stolen Driving Licence - what do I do now?

Last week my wallet was nicked. As well as cash and bank cards, my driving licence was also taken, which of course contains personal information. Everything was cancelled straight after and no further monies withdrawn although two attempts were made at a cashpoint. In view of warnings about ID theft, what can I do now to prevent / limit fraudulent use of my ID. I called DVLA but they are not interested in the licence being flagged up, rather can I just pay £20 for a new one. There are several credit reference agencies. Should I contact them all and join to check their credit reports (which costs more money), or is there a one stop agency I can refer to? Or an alternative solution (apart from name change)?Advice welcome.Hitesh Tailor

Hard luck - hope you've reported it to the police. I had my passport and driving licence stolen a few years ago when I was on holiday in the USA - what a hassle! But when I got back home I, too, was worried about identity theft. I must say nothing has happened since then, but just to be sure, I've signed up with Credit Expert, who provide reports from Experian (a lot of banks use them to check people's credit rating). If you're not already prejudiced because of their current incredibly silly TV adverts, it seems to work quite well.You can sign up for a 30-day free trial, but if you don't want to continue it, remember to cancel, or they will start charging £7.99 pm. I don't want to give you the frights but do you have an up to date biometric passport which makes it harder for someone to use your details to obtain one?
