Flooded Cellar - Advice

Have discovered there are a few inches of water in the cellar - no obvious signs of water leaks so suspect it's coming from below the floor.  the road outside has also sunk a little and water/toilet spluttering in the mornings.Also a sewage type smell now appearing - any advice on what to do?Thanks

Urgh what a pain for you.  Have you got buildings insurance if so I would call them as the cellar may need to be pumped and dehumidified.  Also call Thames Water as leak may be coming from them (though from experience they will not admit it),  I suspect the heavy rainfall may also be a contributing factor.

You main drain could be blocked have you got a manhole cover in your garden. I had a similiar problem with my Polish neighbours above me flushing cooking fat down the drain which solidified in the maindrain causing a water/sewage block.Called Thames water and they flushed through the main pipe via the manhole in my back garden.

Yes because they were a total nightmare, who were claimimng every benefit under the sun from Ealing Council and the lady who owns the upstairs flat had to get a court order to evict them because they had stopped paying the rent and were subletting out the bedroom. As I live on the ground floor i had to sort out the drain (twice)through no fault of my own and pay Thames Water 50 quid a throw.Rant over.

But Tony I think the point was did you need the mention they were Polish,  none of the nightmare scenario you refer to happened because they were Polish,  it happened because they were nightmare neighbours.

Are you saying English or any other nationalities do not claim any benefits? I know lots of people who do that not because they have no other choice but they are lazy to work. And believe me I had a nightmare neighbors and tenants too.

No I am not saying that at all. This couple who were not young and in their late 50s obviously knew exactly what do do with respect to getting up to Ealing Council and claiming benefits. Before anyone starts to have a pop I am not ageist what I am saying is they should have known better. . He pretended not to speak English when I complained about their noise and all the people thay were letting stay for rent. My neighbour saw him working in a restaurant in the West End even though he was claiming Unemployment Benefits. They went away once for two weeks and a load of builders moved in for the period. We are now getting letters from Debtors for them in respect to unpaid bills.
