Polite schoolchildren on the tube

Travelling back from central London on the Picadilly line last week I was very impressed by the behaviour of a group of schoolchildren from Acton High School. The carriage was packed and when adults (including me) got on each of the boys sitting down got up to offer their seats.They also chatted to each other amiably and calmly and you could see what a good impression they were making on all the people on the train; credit where it's due!

That is good to hear of, Shows that you do not need compulsory latin or fancy uniform to produce good behaviour. FYI Toby Young is now considering buying in the services of Swedish profit making companies to run his proposed Acton, previously 'Comprehensive Grammar', now 'Academy' secondary school.Do we want profit making companies running our schools?

Is it different from profit-making companies running our prisons...railways...hospital catering etc? Mark you, we may not like that either.Glad to hear about the Acton High School lads. My son used to do the same - when wearing a hoodie mostly - for the look of stunned incredulity he got from the travelling public.Teenagers,even nice ones, do get unfairly demonised by the rest of us.

Absolutely. The number of polite, helpful, and intelligent schoolchildren/youngsters I meet on a daily basis in and around Acton is very impressive. Tabloid editors take note!

There are some nice teens in Acton, they look rough but are diamonds on the inside. I was at the level crossing gate one day and a group of 'hoodies' came along. One of them used an expletive and then quickly apologised to myself and my daughter for his language. What makes me laugh is the ones with the staffies trying to look tough, and the staffie is a soppy little thing that acts like a chihuahua when you stroke it.

Thanks for posting this.  Lots of good ones get lost in the bad press and in the shadows of the bad apples.  I know plenty of great teens.  This is a nice reminder!
