I was one of the founders of a LETS scheme in Bristol over 15 years ago, which sounds similar. It's a good idea in theory, but tends to be more useful to those who are time-rich/cash-poor. So you get loads of offers of babysitting, ironing, gardening, cake making, but the people in need can never get hold of a plumber, builder or professional, as they don't have the time and would rather be paid highly than work for free. After a while you get the heart-sink when a phone call begins, 'you don't know me but I got your number from LETS'.I left the scheme 300 squids in credit because I could not find anyone willing to do the jobs I required.
