Weekend road chaos
I read the article on ActonW3 about the traffic chaos this weekend with interest, as a resident who's daily life is already disrupted by ratrunners.I regulalry take my life into my own hands walking home during peak rush hour because nobody in the council seems to really care about resident quality of life and safety.The over-riding impression is they only care about moving cars through Acton and Ealing.We are gateway to faster and wider roads, through which the council and TfL seem to be welcoming more and more unsuitable traffic volume and vehicle types. I think TfL would rather Ealing and Acton got out the way so the lorries could get from central London to Hanger Lane without these pink squishy humans causing dents in their cars.The quote from TfL on the closure of the north circular was a joke:Alan Bristow, TfL’s Traffic Director, said, “We ask motorists to bear with us while these works are carried out and we will do our best to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.’’MOTORISTS??!1. Residents are residents first, motorists second. His message should really have been distributed to the areas around us, as 97% of traffic through our borough is transient, ie not local. But they won't be reading Acton W3 as they don't live here, so a complete waste of time and sympathy from Clever Alan.2. That means the rest of us, who actually try and live here, will have bloody great HGVs parked up our roads all weekend because TfL want traffic to flow whatever way it can to avoid roadworks.3. There is no mention anywhere of protection for residents, who simply have to stay inside while the cars thunder past on unsuitable roads round blind bends and corners, their sole aim to get through these annoying residential areas as quickly as possible in as straight a line as possible. COME ON SOMEBODY, whose job is it to think "ooh, all that traffic needs to go somewhere, but we must make sure residents are safe, lets provide protection like no access signs, monitoring patrols, closing unsuitable roads to HGVs, temporarily reducing speed limits to protect children on residential roads, putting in wider diversion measures rather than waiting till traffic hits chiswick roundabout to tell them they are screwed".No hands?No suprise.All power to the motorist.
