Vote early, vote often

Quite busy at Derwentwater at 0705...Picot (community association stalwart) was being a teller and Vlod Barchuk was already there, sporting his Angie Bray rosette, by the time we came out.So have done the deed, accompanied by virgin voter son who didn't seem excited enough to be partaking in democracy for the very first time.I can remember bouncing with glee when I first voted in February 1974

Scarcely!Norman Lamont versus I can't remember who but no-one outstanding in Kingston-on-Thames then.And it was a totally safe tory seat. Really boring.  l

February 1974, huh?Now that's the ONE election I would have voted Tory in (had I been old enough); but only because Enoch said vote Labour!

Impressive or what?He didn't want to vote alone and we promised him breakfast on the way home...he's at the post gap year stage of being prepared to do anything for food...having existed at one point on six apples a day cos he ran out of money (he says)

I've just returned from voting (at Acton High School) and was very impressed to be one of around a dozen people there - in the past I have often cast my vote completely alone!

Feb '74 was my first election too. Drove 30 miles to where I was registered (parents' house) to vote Labour in a very safe Tory seat.Did it again in the autumn. Some people never learn.

I do remeber that whichever I voted in January, I changed horses for October and then felt rather ashamed of myself: it must have been tory to liberal or vice versa as was never a Wilson fan.

Bassam and entourage walked up the street earlier - actually I practically ran him over which would have played havoc with the result...why stand in the middle of a junction even to canvass? Terribly tempting!And Vlod and another ernest tory just walked up and down Goldsmith Avenue - getting the vote out???

Ealing was mentioned on the Beeb as one place where people were locked out, didn't say where. My neighbours went to vote around 8pm and there was a massive queue apparently at St Peters church. They did get to vote though.

So when I voted first - aged 18 and a week in 1974, it was a hung parliament and very exciting.Now both my children are voting for the first time and...

in Ealing and Acton was over 74% up 18% - that in itself is a result.
