The formal count starts at 1pm but it's not looking good for us. The number of Council ballot papers were counted last night (to verify the numbers in the boxes tallied with the number of papers recorded as being issued), which allowed us sad politicos to stay up late to take sample counts from the ballot boxes as papers were counted out in front of us.Getting my excuses in early, holding the local and General elections on the same day has helped Labour (it's an unspoken truth amongst the parties that the Labour vote is harder to get out when there's not a General Election), with lots of their supporter voting who would not normally turn out for the locals. My East Acton colleagues were looking very glum. My sample count suggested Acton Central had gone Labour, best we might get is a split ward. But I could be wrong; it was late, I was tired and there were a lot of split votes which I couldn't track.Other rumblings were South Acton to stay Labour, Southfield too close to call between Tories and Lib Dems. On these results the council would either be hung or Labour.

The Tories are paying the price for bulldozing through unpopular measures like the redevelopment of Ealing town centre where they seemed happy to approve every high rise proposal that developers could think of, and expanding schools like Derwentwater which don't want to be expanded. It's a pity really because on the whole it's been a well run council for the last 4 years. Hope the next council learns this lesson (judging from Labour's last long period in power, I don't have very high hopes of that)

But they conceded on Derwentwater as soon as the political reality hit home - daft but short-lived - and I agree it has been a well-run, and not particularly ideological, council for the last four years.I do hope whoever is in charge carries on with sorting out Acton Town Hall but fear they may not.
how about south acton buildings going up as high as b4 and the poor guys who run the shops their left in the dark

Local elections Labour win control of Ealing CouncilThe Labour party won a majority of seats in yesterday's (Thursday 6 May) local elections and will control the council for the next four years.A total of 69 candidates were elected to the council with three councillors representing each of the borough's 23 wards. The political make up of the council is 40 (Labour party), 24 (Conservative party) and 5 (Liberal Democrats).The overall voter turnout was 62.24% of the local electorate of 232,767 people.

I'm really sorry Vlod wasn't re-elected - don't see how he could have done better by the ward.Though not a natural tory of recent years, I thought the Tory led Council rather better than the Labour one that preceded it.
They were elected on the anti tram vote. Once that went away, they failed the people of Acton with their ill thought out schemes like the redevelopment of the town centre and the expansion of Derwentwater school. And that awful bribe was just the icing on the cake. They got what they deserved, and we deserve better.
The bribe was indeed pretty rubbish...and Derwentwater idiotic but short-lived.But what will happen to the Town Hall plan - surely not just relegated to the back burnere again?

Well I hope that Ealing that was given awards for the most improved council doesn't slide back again to the state it was in four years ago when none of the Acton Central councillors replied to my emails and the street looked like a third world city.

I agree Bob. I also agree with Sara....Vlod was an very good Councillor for us. Ok, I wasn't impressed at all with the "refund", oh no, and there was still lots to put "right", but Vlod always answered emails and calls for attention to problems. We now have to make new relationships all over again. Great.

Credit where it is due the Tory Council did improve the cleaniness of the streets in South Acton by employing more street cleaners. I hope the new Labour Administration does not take a step backwards.
Yes they were good at streetwatchers (though that was a Labour innovation I seem to recall) grafitti responsiveness and street cleaning though the rubbish contractors still got away with too much.I too hope the new guys build on that and don't let it slide
There would be a riot if they did, I'm sure.
If the new administration is smart they will note the good bits of what the Conservatives did and use it as a template for continuing improvement.OVERALL, the Conservatives were palpably much better during their 4 years than Labour ever were.I only hope observations have been made and lessons learned.Nobody wants the streets knee deep in garbage again with Council Tax hiked through the roof.

Dan Crawford has posted on here before, declaring himself as a candidate. He shares an address with long standing East Acton Ward, Kate Crawford. The two previous tory East Acton councillors lived in W5 and W13 respectively.

Mr Abdullah lives locally so he'll understand the problems with the lorries in Friary Road and the situation we had before the Conservative Council cleaned up the area from fly-tipping and graffiti (if he's lived here long enough). Hopefully.

Dan Crawford has been posting here since June last year. Hope he continues to listen in.
Kate Crawford has also been very active locally and is a champion of the vunerable in our area. She was previously the only Labour councillor in the East Acton ward (the other 2 were Conservative). All 3 councillors in the ward are now Labour and I think that this is down in part to the work Kate has done.

Not sure which ward you live in Bob but...Labour Cllrs Crawford,D (Central), Crawford, K (East), Gallagher (South), Gulaid (Central), Johnson (South), Sabiers (South), Said (East) and Tailor (East) all live in Acton.
