Must have been an influential local resident...Our street is heavily populated with lime trees which means that everything is covered in sticky goo from the time the first leaf appears to when the last one descends in the autumn which is why, Sara, some people might object to trees! ( - if it's not the goo, it's the mess from roosting birds). There are a very few parking spaces that are not under a tree, and they are, as you might imagine, heavily contested (I'm not really into washing my car every weekend). A year or so ago the council came round and planted new small trees in most of the gaps, so trees from one end of the street to the other. Nice thought, but a nuisance for those parking cars that don't move every day. I emailed the tree planting department querying why, and asking if they should not at least have consulted residents as to whether they wanted yet more trees. No answer. (Not that I would really have wanted them to dig up the poor things once planted - can't do them any good.)
