"I can't get my head round just what it is that these schools will be free from compared to other schools"Judging by Mr. Young's frankly frightening blog, free from any taint of professional education adminstrative standards. This is what I don't get - why is education considered a suitable arena to experiment with doing away with established professional standards* rather than, say, airliner maintenance or brain surgery or nuclear power generation?* In this case 'before opening a new school in an area, establish that there's a likely need for it long term, that funding is available and that there's somewhere suitable to put it'. Basic stuff in the setting-up-schools industry, I'd have thought, and strangely enough all areas that could benefit from professional democratic oversight.
