Asda takes over Netto

Asda announced today they have bought Netto in a bid to have more smaller shops across the UK. The Netto name will be replaced by Asda. As the Netto store in Acton is only 5mins from the Asda store I doubt if they will want to keep both. Another vacant property in Acton?

Do you mean the ASDA in Park Royal? 5 mins only if you have your own car and enough cash to pay for petrol. I'd bet a fair proportion of the Netto customers would find the Asda unimaginably far away.

Yes, I've only found Asda once in West London, and that was a drive round in circles (very cheap coloured sheets for the life-models to sit on!)

Asda Park Royal calls itself 'Asda Ealing' on the outside, I Guess Park royal wasn't posh enough!, but it is a good store.

Asda own by Walmart one of the BIGGEST retail chain in US if not the world. One way for the big fish is to buy up the competition and kill it off.

Yes, if you don't have a car, Asda is quite a hike on the 440.  I'm not a fan of Asda, but it would be an improvement over Netto (what wouldn't?)

Never been to Netto so not sure what goes on there. Would never food shop in Asda. I tried it when a branch opened in Bristol, but got mouldy cheese, hand cream that stung, loads of extra mysterious ingredients in the soya milk, etc. Also there seemed to be ten aisles of fizzy pop, booze and crisps and other rubbish to just one aisle of real food.  There was an aisle labelled 'foreign food'! where you could buy exotic things like rice!They did have cheapest cat litter, and some of the household/bedding is a snip, but they can keep their grub.

Maybe the Netto will just be re-branded - I've not shopped there as it looks like a downmarket Iceland so Asda might be better. Shame if it closes rather than gets some investment as I am pretty sure it servies a differenet demographic than the ASDA in Park Royal.

I doubt they will close it down, more likely to rebrand it and keep it as a local smaller format.  Much like Sainsbury's who have both a full size (ish) supermarket and a Local both on Chiswick high street.
