Actom Tram Depot - Demolition

I see the big demolition machines were parked in the tram depot last night. Looks like the old buidling is about to come down. Now's the time to get your photos of this building before its gone.

Where is Hither Green Station?  Or have I read that wrong?

Hither Green Station is a couple of miles south east of Lewisham. Note the journey length, were bus journeys cut into tiny pieces so as to force passengers to pay again as often as possible?

I like the Edwardian tram, Fred, with the Edwardian CCTV above it.

The 36 Route went VIA those places, it's showing the passengers the route the bus takes to its destination. The further you go the more the fare was, generally from one stage (as shown on the indicator board) to another. Somewhat similar to zones and fare stages now.You didn't have to get off at the end of each segment lol!

I don't think anyone thought that, Kevin, just fascinated by the long route taken by one bus. It's normal outside London the pay different amounts depending on where you will get off. Thank gawd we have just one fare in London, and Oyster touch instead of queuing to pay the driver and all that change. Plus I never really know where I want to get off until I get there! You have to name the stop in Bristol.

David, thanks for that picture. I like the way the new build sits nicely with the adjoining building. What Planner agreed to that monstrosity?.Such things would never happen in Chiswick.Ealing Council should be ashamed of themselves.Beware ...... The conductor collected fares and cared for passengers, and a wall chart listed all possible fare charges between stops to enable checking. The long routes were divided up and driver only operation introduced at about the same time as single charges were introduced.All very good unless you needed to travel past the new route ends and had to wait in the rain for another bus.Leicester City buses used to run between two points on the City boundary, but stopped in the centre to change numbers and collect more fares.

Market - what a good idea. We live just round the corner and have been dreading this - parking space is already at satuation. I thought the plans had been rejected because of too high volume. Anyway, I'd love to see the business plan for trying to make a go of more shops here...PS Apparently, someone found it a useful spot to store drugs! Let's go back to the market idea!

"  I'd love to see the business plan for trying to make a go of more shops here.  "Trouble is, unlike Ealing, or Chiswick, there are no large businesses or offices near Acton High Street, so we don't have that daily movement employees to support and spend money in markets, coffee shops, cafes, etc.We're surrounded by Ealing, Shepherds Bush and Chiswick.
