It's far too excruciating to watch the footie, so...

I could go and shop for picnic ingredients on the theory that Morrisons will be empty... and then make potato salad...or read Catcher in the Rye...or do the work I am supposed to complete before tomorrow...or....?

Making the potato salad and then harvesting raspberries and strawberries from a friend's allotment DEFINITELY a better way of spending two hours from all I hear!

I was going to say that it was too hot for doing anything in an allotment, until I remembered that it was 29º in my attic where I was watching the England disaster.  When it got too depressing, I looked at the Chiswick forum while keeping one eye on the football. (I've got 2 screens and a TV card on my desktop PC.)The most uplifting football story today was an item on Match of the Day tonight about the work that Sir Stanley Matthews did for 25 years in South Africa.  Every (British) summer, he used to go to Soweto to teach black kids to play football.  Amazingly this continued at the height of the apartheid regime.  He was called "the black man with a white face" by his friends in Soweto, and his memory is still revered there.
