What's wrong with the flags Ms Bell? Do you still see them as a symbol of the BNP? Let them fly until they fall off, as they add some passion and colour to the landscape. And what about the flags from all the other countries that I see flying from from cars? Is your myopia selective? It probably is, sad really.

What??? I can't stand any sort of flag-waving, and I'm not the least bit interested in competitive sports, so, personally, am pleased if it's all over.

Hear hear!  When one goes to Spain during a fiesta no-one complains about all the flags flying, or France on Bastille Day or USA for 4th July etc. etc.  Why is everyone always so down on the English flying their flags?

I hated seeing flags everywhere in the USA. Nationalism makes me cringe.

Well, I agree re the nationalism, but the England flags tend to fly only when there's a major footy tournament on, once every two years (if we qualify) so I see it more as a fiesta thing. But I'm from South Of The Uxbridge Road so obviously a complete chav!

I also have a problem with rampant nationalism which has echoes of the BNP/NF etc But in the football context no problem with flags, on cars, on houses whatever. In Britain our nationality has not been under threat, unlike states in Europe, hence we have not had to worry about it, hence our difficulty in understanding say the problems of what used to be Yugoslavia. My background is Scottish, Scottish/Welsh wrapped up with a bit of Scouse. My boys have Eira and Ipswich added to the mix. I will support any of us from the Union but England first.I agree with Billy Bragg and Jeruselam for the English National Anthem."And did those feet, from Ancient Times......"

Driving down to Surrey from about 1645, I would say flags on cars already considerably less in evidence on the journey down and hardly noticed any on the way back - but it was getting quite dark so maybe they were fluttering darkly.Was always going to be rubbish once idiot manager had decided not to take Theo. I lost interest (didn't have much to be fair) at that point.

But Theo wasn't fit, he only just recovered from his injuries.So is Rooney, but if he din't take him Fabio would have been slaughtered by the media.Overall England players are good, but not World Class!

Perhaps we need to look at radical, experimental measures; perhaps select players from non-Premiership teams!  Could we do any worse?

I remember St Gary of Lineker being asked years ago whether he'd ever thought of going into management, and he replied that he wasn't keen on club management, but liked the idea of being the England boss, if we were ever to go down the route taken by other countries of giving the job of national team coach to a footballer who had retired recently from international duty and hadn't actually done any club management yet. Worth a try, I'd've thought, if Becks is up for it.

Just because the Argentina have an old player in charge and they ar successful, dones not make Becks the 1st choice. A good player does not make a good manager/coach.As I understand it he hasn't even passed his Level 3 Choaching badge yet, let along any REAL mangement experience. Lets not live in fairyland.

'Arry?Why? 'Arry's strength is largely in finding cheap, unfashionable players who are just a little better than anyone thinks and give them a chance. The England manager needs to be able to get performances out of a bunch of overpaid, under-talented, self-regarding, lazy prima donnas who aren't nearly as good as they think they are and don't care about anything much beyond themselves. Chap on the BBC website said it best. They are like the Lehman Brothers of football. They get paid astronomical sums of money and there are no penalties but public opprobium for failure. And you can put up with a LOT of public opprobium when you have a Lamborghini
