ealing council waste of money

Am I the only one who finds that Ealing Council is wasting a lot of money by replacing the perfectly adequate barriers at the top of Goldsmith Road/St. Dunstans Avenue and Acacia Road barriers ?

I didn't know this replacement was happening, did anyone else?  What's the purpose?  Looks set to damage the cars of even the most careful of drivers.Can one of our local Councillors answer the question above for us....what is the point of this/purpose?

Well no one told me about them before May 6th. There had long been a promise to replace the Acacia Rd width restriction as the post was frequently down (and some complained about catching tyres on the metal lug of the post) though no plans were ever shown to me. Changing the St Dunstan's Ave posts seems bizarre as I remember them being re-instated during my four years on the Council.

The ones between Goldsmith Road and Avenue look much less likely to damage passing cars - especially their wing mirrors. Weren't there a lot of complaints last time they were tweaked? i suspect this is in response to that.

I agree re the wing mirrors, but to my untrained eye those raised cement blocks look a little closer to each other and slightly higher.  Maybe it's an optical illusion.  Let's get it right this time otherwise it will be a complete waste of dosh.  When the Council can't even keep lorries from parking in The Drive or Friary Road, it seems a tad superficial and inappropriate to spend money on something like this when there was a system in place.

Those who complained that the old width restriction caught wing mirrors will be interested to know that the new restriction seems to work at hubcap level.

The ones on Acacia Rd are much better now,  fallen down post gone.Also seems to be a change to the one by the Bridge Cafe as I clipped my wing mirror!

One of our clients who lives next to the one on Accacia Road, said that she has noticed on more than one occasion tyres being burst because of the design of the new kerb, personally I would rather clip my wing mirror than burst a tyre.

I think the problem is when cars approach the width restriction too fast. You have to crawl through otherwise you run the risk of bursting your tyres. We've seen a few now and I wouldn't say they were speeding. Not sure how I feel about the new restriction. The approach is better, rather than having to swerve to the side of the road to get through but it is weird not having a visual guide once you have started to go through. A big plus is it has stopped most of the 'big boys' coming up Acacia and using it as a rat run.
