Rally Against Cuts to BSF

A number of teaching unions have organised a rally and lobbying of MPs on Monday 19th July from 13:00 onwards.The focus of the rally is against the cuts to the BSF Programme which has effected every school in Ealing.  However, I intend to make it clear to Angie Bray that as a local parent and teacher I am also opposed to free schools and academies.  All those who feel strongly about these issues, and I know there are many of us on this forum, are welcome to attend.  You do not have to be a member of a union.This link tells you more about the lobbying process: http://www.atl.org.uk/training-and-events/forthcoming-events/bsf-cuts-lobby.asp It will save you a lot of time when you arrive at Westminster.  There are also some good pubs surrounding Methodist Central Hall.Remeber education cuts don't heal.a

I went to this rally and was able to meet with Angie Bray.  She is a nice lady and genuinely cares about our community.  Unfortunately, she is a supporter of free schools and agreed with the scrapping of BSF.  When she spoke about a lack of money in the system and hard choices to be made I reminded her that her government are financing wars in two countries and are extremely soft on taxing bankers, high earners and non-doms.  I wish I had asked her what her party were going to do with the £130 billion earmarked for Trident's replacement.Interestingly, despite supporting free schools, she was not able to explain how they would would succeed in raising standards, providing better value for money or a better educational experience than an LEA managed new school.  She did say that she would fight for funding for Ealing schools in the capital review that Gove has promised.Probably a waste of time but I am glad I registered my protest.
